Yep, what started out as a joke from the other string, actually developed into some pertinent info and discussion/opinions with Dano squirting a little more fuel to the fire to keep it burning.
All's good, somewhere.... as for me, leaving on vac in a couple hours to sit my ass on a little lake between Tonasket and Republic for a week, an hoping no fires come around! No cell service an no traffic! Unfortunately, just bought a brand spanking new BMW dual sport Wednesday that the boss lady won't let me bring, something about being stuck in the trailer all day while I'm out riding. Woman can't be pleased, New 30' trailer with everything in it and I still have to hang around..

Really think fuel additives should be the next 6 pager.....

No, no...ARCO gas vs Costco gas vs Shell gas vs Chevron gas vs Safeway gas vs...

Save the fuel additives thread for later.

Just collect panty-hose from your "hook-ups" then use several layers as air filters.

Works great to keep water out.

If "baffle them with bullshit" was a class, this thread would definitely be included on the syllabus. :thumbsup2:

I've heard that the "filtered air" can smell like anchovies though

I used to run K&N Filters, until reading a lot about them on Jeep Forums.

One day I was at an auto parts store and took one out of the box and held it up to the light. I could see the lights of the store through it.

I checked the OEM filter in my truck and held it up to the sun. I can see light thru it. Does that mean the element is too coarse of a material?

Maybe I really should be changing to another type of filter.

If you try and use a filter that you CAN'T see light through your engine won't run.

It's normal to see light through a good filter. Light waves are measured in "angstroms". An angstom is .1 nanometer in "length" or "one ten-billionth of a meter". Automotive air filters are designed to filter out particles between 1 and 5 "Microns or ten thousand times larger than light waves. Since light runs somewhere between 400 and 900 Angstoms, it's a lot "finer" than the holes in the filters which are about a thousand times larger.

While on the topic, an "air molecule" is about 4 "angstoms in diameter. So a filter fine enough to block light would still pass an air molecule. Point is that an engine takes a HUGE number of air molecules to run.
