http://mobile.bloomberg.com/news/2014-07-23/boeing-boosts-2014-forecast-as-jetliner-deliveries-surge.html While Boeing’s policy is for executives to retire at age 65, McNerney said he will be staying on the job and “continuing to build a succession plan.”
McNerney responded with a quip when asked about his plans after turning 65 next month. “The heart will still be beating, the employees will still be cowering, I’ll be working hard,” he said. “There’s no end in sight.”
Cowering huh? The sad truth is he is right. The unions have been bought out and public opinion is against union members. The fact that a CEO of a company has the nerve to talk about his companies employees this way is disgusting. But nothing will be done about it. Unions are only as strong as their members and we all saw what happened last time we voted.

Oh yeah because the same hasnt been said by the union entitled workers that think they can't be replaced.

Wow, that's a hell of a quote.
I don't take it TOO seriously, but one would think that a big-time player like McNerney would be more careful than that when talking to reporters . . . .

Yeah...I suspect we will see a correction or retraction at some point. There's no way he said that...if he did - I would be more worried about his mental health, not his heart (as an investor/board member).

That's the problem with many in his position. They are detached from the reality of the day to day struggle of the average person in the workplace. They have the mindset they are superior than them. They fail to realize, without the people making up the workforce under them, they wouldn't be in their 'supreme' position.

Everyone is replaceable, to think otherwise is idiotic. I'm curious though, what specifically makes union workers seem "entitled" in your eyes?
Plus, he wasn't just talking about the union employees, he is talking of all employees.

Constant barrage of right-wing propaganda from Faux "News"?

Makes sense. :) It's not a perfect system, but for anyone who thinks unions don't help, tell that to the guys who were forced to work 12 hours a day for weeks ( or months) without a day off if they wanted to keep their jobs. This was finally changed in the last few decades. Being part of the union allows for me to take every third weekend off, and the company can't force me to work more than 128 hours of overtime in a quarter. Let that sink in. On top of the 40 hours a week most people are expected work, my crew and I have to work the extra 128 hours before we can say no. And that counter resets every three months. There is a reason the nickname for my area is "Cell Block 325". We've been told to just plan on working 10 or 12 hour days and every weekend, that way if we don't have to its a pleasant surprise. And that's with union protection, imagine if I didn't have that...
I never understood unions until I started this job. Think mechanics are spoiled? Think we're entitled? That's fine. That is your opinion. And I would agree with you to some extent. There are people who take it all for granted and make us all look that way. But I bet you would change your opinion with some first hand knowledge of what it's like working in heavy structures.
I'm not looking to fight with any of my gun - loving brothers and sisters.keep the whole union thing out of it and imagine it was the CEO or president of your company bragging about making employees cower. Is that someone you can respect? Does that make you feel proud to work for them? That's all I'm saying.

I appreciate your position and don't want to implicate that you don't work hard however your history is incorrect. Please don't mistake union, "if it wasn't for us you'd be working 12 hours a day 7 days a week if you want to keep your job," propaganda for historical fact. It's simply not true.
Carry on.

Right. It was invisible hand of the market that made it all happen.
