Welcome to socialized medicine in the guise of pandemic challenges or supply chain issuez, or whatever excuse du jour.
And now, with "shortages" affecting child care labor, Patty Murry has a Plan to save American families, and poor women of color who are under-paid child care workers.
"Under my legislation, Washington state families won’t pay more than 7% of their income for child care. The typical family making the median income will pay no more than $10 a day for child care—and many will pay nothing at all."
Great. All you single-and-childless, and retired empty-nesters will get to share in the cost of raising everyone else's crotch droppings.
She gives you: "Child Care for Working Families Act"

I wonder if my daughter's family approves this message :) It costs her $80/day now and indirectly $500/mo to me to help her with this expense (after her college degree and working every day all her life.) Curious what republicans have to offer to many like her other than tough love.. So called "socialism" rather - "welfare" "democratic" state - is here for a reason, as a reflection of impoverishment of the majority of the country. So it works both ways - as gov-t destroys and bankrupts the country economy through treasonous selloff to global corporate interests - gov-t buys support for its "democratic welfare" state from its voters descending into poverty and clinging to normalcy with wellfare handouts. On the other hand if gov-t promotes "social-democratic" redistribution ideology, you'll wreck free market economy - and as a result - again, you end up with voters descending into poverty - and voting for a welfare state. :) Well, our gov-t does both, just to be sure.. :)

My wife and I have chosen to homeschool our kids and survive as a 1 income household for the last 20 years. It means we've never owned a new car or taken a vacation to Hawaii. But it sure as heck also means I should NEVER pay a dime for others' childcare!

My wife and I have chosen to homeschool our kids and survive as a 1 income household for the last 20 years. It means we've never owned a new car or taken a vacation to Hawaii. But it sure as heck also means I should NEVER pay a dime for others' childcare! I hear you. The thing is that regardless of choice - whether the parent chooses to stay in a workforce or not after the child birth - nowadays most american parents will end up not owning a new car and not taking vacation to Hawaii. Either due to the one parent loss of income/carrier, or drained dry by a childcare. So the choice is somewhat illusory. The main difference is that those who chose the childcare can use gov-t welfare payouts to alleviate the financial burden of childcare for hire, while self-sufficient choices could use the reduction of the gov-t tax burden. This creates a political divide, and it's not difficult to guess which side ever-expanding gov-t would rather choose to exploit for votes in modern times. The third option many couples now resort to - not having kids at all, becoming pathetic and offensive to real parents "proud dogs moms" and creating a boon for a pet industry as a pitiful surrogate. The fact that childrearing became unaffordable option for majority of Americans in this economy with low wages, sky-rocketing costs of living and necessities spells doom for a society as a whole and is closely linked to disastrous policies of open-borders gov-t trafficking of parentless children and youth into the country across southern border. This in turn leads to explosion of gov-t dependent underclass and further destruction of social fabric of society that already lost all sense of "nationhood" and national unity. Another thing to consider is whether you'd make the same choice if childcare was affordable, and if with two incomes you could potentially have a new car and/or vacation to Hawaii with kids in 20 years. So imho the matter is not that simple. The Americans are literally dying out. One would expect any sensible gov-t, if there ever been one, to do at least something about it.
