Fitness assessments need to be done every year. And I am talking the same one they took before and upon being hired. Transfer officers SHOULD NOT be held to lower standards then new recruits.
Yes, females naturally have more body fat than men; but that lady has some big ass legs that are not from the leg press machine.

This. And the reality is - she probably does a good job of representing the community based on my visits over there - purple hair or not.

There's usually a SOP manual or something that has a section on grooming, jewelry etc.

If you want shock and awe, walk up to the back of a LA County Sheriffs Deputy and notice the Gray Ponytail. "It" then turns around and it is a 50+ year old dude with makeup and an Adams apple. Nice lipstick though. After that moment, I will settle for just gender identifiable.
MPDC has a gay and lesbian liaison unit, staffed by nothing but gay, lesbian, and transgendered officers.
From the guys (gals?) I met that worked in that unit, they all seemed pretty level headed, and more down to earth, than other officers...

represent the community? Umm no. You want police to enforce the laws with a little public relations thrown in. That's it.

So umm Yeah. If you have a 90 percent black community, you probably want a bunch of black cops. And so forth.

But what if they're all criminals?
That sounded bad, but WTF.. I'm gonna leave it...
What if those that aren't, aren't interested in the field?

Sam, thanks for sharing the story. It's frustrating to not be able to ask the caller directly "Why?"
Out of all of this- looking forward to reading about the sheriff's official response. I was under the impression that you have NO obligation to supply name or other information in a situation like this.
To expect otherwise is to surrender to the "Show me your papers!" mentality.

Originally you had made it sound like the cops had shown up while you were still running around in your kit for the photoshoot, but instead they show up an hour later? That doesn't jive with your theory of being swatted.
Chalk it up to scared citizen not knowing what you were doing, and instead of saying "Yeah, I'm doing a photoshoot, here is my card/website/whatever check me out" you blew him off, which probably made it even worse in his mind. He then called police, said what he needed to say to get them to come out, because at this point he's pretty nervous and when you refused to ID yourself, it got weird. I've been on the receiving end of this type of call before, the cops didn't want to waste their time on me.
4/10 wouldn't click on bait again.

Ain't nobody got time to walk 80yds with gear to try to explain themselves to a mere peasant.
