Your child might have a severe peanut allergy... because science.

New Study Shows Withholding Peanuts From Children Causes Peanut Allergy

Bastiat Institute wrote:The science is never settled: That's the point of science. Millions now likely have peanut allergies because of a blind faith in the scientific consensus. Luckily, this bad science wasn't enforced by law.

"The new study means that the recommendations parents have been given over the past 15 years — to withhold peanuts until the age of 3...'were exactly wrong'"

You also may not get as mad at your spouse when they rip one under the covers... because science.

Scientists Say Smelling Farts Prevents Cancer

“Although hydrogen sulfide gas”—produced when bacteria breaks down food—”is well known as a pungent, foul-smelling gas in rotten eggs and flatulence, it is naturally produced in the body and could in fact be a healthcare hero with significant implications for future therapies for a variety of diseases,” Dr. Mark Wood said in a university release.

Although the stinky gas can be noxious in large doses, scientists believe that a whiff here and there has the power to reduce risks of cancer, strokes, heart attacks, arthritis, and dementia by preserving mitochondria.

Interesting

Adam Carolla predicted that the cause of this was related to parenting.....he noticed that the more affluent you are the more likely you are to be allergic to nuts....He referenced a documentary on the use of a product called "plumpynut" (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Plumpy%27nut) on starving kids in Africa.

The reporter from the US asked the UN aid worker if it was wise to give African kids peanuts in lieu of the peanut allergies....the UN aid worker responded with: "There are no peanut allergies in Africa."

It is absolutely unheard of in poor nations, yet here it seems every other person will die if they even see an image of Mr. Peanut......

My son is allergic to peanuts. He had them for the first time prior to age 1. He broke out in a rash. Doctor tested him and he is allergic.

My daughter is not allergic to peanuts. Same deal, let her munch on a peanut butter and jelly sandwich before her 1 year dr. Appointment. No bubbles no troubles.

Nothing is sure fire. some of it is genetics, some is environment.

Nice to know scientist are wasting all that grant money on useless research. Turns out, dogs would rather you pet them, than talk to them.

So the gym didn't work out. Running? Forget it. Trying for more veggies, with mixed results. Butt at least I'm doing SOMETHING good for my health!

Most other countries, especially in Asia where peanut allergy is almost unheard of, boil instead of roasting the peanuts. When you boil them it takes out the protein that people are allergic to. That is why many other countries don't have peanut allergies.

Actually, studies are starting to show that children introduced to peanut butter (peanuts) and other tree and ground nuts before the age of 1 (I think) are far less likely than their peers to develop nut allergies. I always nursed my sons, but ate lots of peanut butter, and pretty much everything not a sweet--and I really have a thing for almonds, in any form, and hazelnuts, again in any form. I firmly believe that passing on even minute quantities of nut proteins through breastmilk aids in the failure to develop nut allergies (or any other food allergies).

Interestingly, my own allergist (and my sons' allergist), Dr. Stephen Tilles of Northwest Asthma and Allergy, has recently patented the ViaPatch, a skin patch that exposes nut-allergy patients to very small doses of peanut protein transdermally, and which has been shown in both clinical trials and practice to be effective.

The downside is, Dr. Tilles gave an interview to Brian Williams on NBC Nightly News in November-ish...he went from being booked out about four weeks to being booked out to six months or more. Then another interview with him, specific to the ViaPatch, aired again on the NBC Nightly News (this time with Lester Holt), about two weeks ago. Now he has to specifically request that new patients be bumped so that he can see Roald and Sam--he is literally booking out a year right now. People have been calling from all over the U.S. and Canada, trying to get in to see him.

When we saw Dr. Tilles last Thursday, I told him to stay the (swear word) off the news...he wants to see the boys (Roald and Sam have moderate to severe asthma and moderate to severe non-food allergies, which are controlled with medication) every three months, but that's not possible anymore without his direct intervention, because his schedule is filled with desperate patients and their parents. And yes, I do believe this is (like the vaccine-refusal thing) something that occurs in overprotective, misinformed, affluent families far more often than in lower-income families.

My wife developed a late life allergy. Her throat would start swelling shut after eating. It was hit and miss, no pattern. Went to several specialists, had the whole battery of testing done...all inconclusive...nothing they could do...carry an epi pen was the recommendation...

I set about to solve the problem. Long story short, we discovered she was allergic to a food coloring.

Random chemicals that are fed to us....small wonder more of us don't look like blowfish...
