Yup . . . just like I use gun rights as a litmus test for my politicians. I've decided that gun rights are my one BIG issue, and that determines how I vote.
Sometimes that means that my candidates vote against me on other issues, unfortunately. For example, I believe in abortion rights, but most of the pro-gun candidates are Republican, and most Republicans are anti-abortion.

It's interesting. I am anti-abortion. But I am not for laws banning the practice.

And gun owners tend to use a very specific litmus test to evaluate politicians as well.
Not saying it's wrong to do so, but voters who determine their candidates based on any single issue tend to have highly polarized viewpoints.
I'll continue to vote for whoever actually represents smaller, less intrusive government and supports everybody's rights.
Find me a candidate who supports allowing gay married couples to defend their marijuana plants with automatic weapons.
Currently, that excludes the Democratic party and the GOP.

It's what makes choosing who to vote for hard for me. I'm pro-gun, but I'm also pro-choice, pro-marriage equality, and pro-pot. These ideals are often mutually exclusive in politicians.

We're not that far apart. But I tell you, the GOP has moved more on abortion than the Dem's on guns.

Agreed. And they'll keep losing my vote until they move more.
(The GOP)
Gun rights and marriage equality are both key issues for me. I cannot in good conscience support anybody who stands against either of those.

Gun rights are the top issue for me.
Honestly true Libertarianism is perfect for me.
Don't like gays? Don't be gay.
Don't like abortion? Don't get one.
Don't like drugs? Don't do them.
Don't like guns? Don't get one.
But for fucks sake leave other people's decisions alone.
The whole abortion issue, my thoughts on it, the majority of the people who want to get one are people I would prefer DIDNT reproduce in the first place.

I'm worried about my gun rights. Who fucks who or what is not something I care about and cant think why anyone would worry about it unless................................... Marriage equality is happening so anyone can marry who they chose, get over it and worry about the important things like the doubling of the national debt and giving Iran nukes.

Glad you agree. Now kindly tell your GOP representatives that they're on the wrong side of history on this one so they can start regaining moderate votes.
Family values my ass. Marriage existed before Christianity, it's not theirs to define or defend.

I don't care. That's exactly the point. I think that two consenting adults in a committed long term relationship should have the same legal and social rights regardless of their respective genders. That seems to be a really scary, icky concept for the religious-leaning component of the GOP.

Please.... 70+% of the US believe in God so it's not just the GOP and it's not ALL of the GOP.
Don't ya think it's time that ya worry about something that affects ALL the people instead of 11%?

Believing in God doesn't mean supporting institutionalized discrimination against gays. And how about supporting all people, instead of crushing a minority in the name of appealing to the American Taliban.... err fundamental Christians?
