Feel like your gun's aren't moving?

Fri Apr 17, 2015 9:58 am

I know it's come up a few times in the past - people saying, "Hey this is a good deal...why's no one jumping on this?"

Here is my answer...Time.
I don't have Time to drive (probably in shitty traffic, because 'Seattle') from South Seattle to [insert wherever the hell you live here], to some FFL (who is only open during regular business hours), to wait on the BGC, then drive back (probably in shitty traffic, because 'Seattle').

To meet anyone outside my immediate vicinity, I have to take time off, or meet on the weekend.
Then I have to sit in traffic...which I hate. I quit my previous job BECAUSE I had to sit in traffic.
For those live near Seattle....When all is said and done, we have to figure that any meet that takes place more than 10 miles from home will add between 1-2 hours to our day. More if it's any time around rush hour.

Now...I currently work in a job where I make over $20 per hour.
Say you're selling a firearm for a FMV...Glock 17 g3 + a few extras = $450 + I pay the transfer ($20) + you're in ...[insert wherever the hell you live here].
If I take time out of my day to meet you anywhere in that direction, I am losing money from work, which in my book/logic adds to the price of your glock.
+1 hour - Would I pay $490? hmmm maybe.
+2 hours - Would I pay $510? hmmm welll how many extras, and is it exactly what I want?
+3 hours - Would I pay $530? Nope!

Clearly weekends are a better option...a little less traffic, but now we have the FFL issue. FFls are busier on weekends, a few are even closed on one of the two days. My quick trip to pick up a firearm in [insert wherever the hell you live here] becomes a half day trip, and limited to a specific day of travel. See the math above.

My suggestion, either accept the fact that we are going to have to lower PVT Sale prices because of that stupid freakin law, or accept the fact that your are going to sit on things a little longer.
Basic supply and demand.

Back in the Ol' days, when we could meet in a parking lot at 9 pm check each others cpl and get back on the road, this would have been a 1 hour trip to most places.
Those days are pretty much gone for the law abiding person.
... I'm just glad I bought my last pvt sale firearm prior to Dec 4 2014 :wink05:

Otoh a complete AR lower or a handgun frame isn't a firearm per 594...

Exactly right, H2obouget.

Add to that the risk of getting a delay with the BGC, and all of a sudden you are making TWO trips to that FFL in [insert far-off city here]. If you're buying a handgun and don't have a CPL, you will most certainly be making two trips.

But at least our streets are safer. :rofl9:

It is a pickle. You've got a new gun, you knock off say $100 bucks so now your $550 Glock 17 is down to $450. Plus say $25 for BGC. $475 for a used Glock (or whatever). Maybe I just wait until I can get a new deal on a G17 for $525. Sure, i'll pay tax, but I'll know it is brand new out of the box for only $100 more after tax.

As gun owners, we basically have to sell to the casual gun person. We do our due dilligence, but at the absolute rock bottom price that we can find, so there is enough possibility that we can sell it again later.

OR is about to have the same thing. Watch. Over at NWFA I'm sure the OR sales will plumet as well.

Let's not turn this into a rehash of 594.
None of us like it. End of Story.

This is a conversation about how to deal with the reality that it's there, and how that changes the reality of the Pvt Sale.

Idk I'll let you know when I see a gun that I just have to have. Any more I'm buying it from an ffl. And it'll be brand new the new laws forced my hand.

All my purchases have been new since 594. While I have sold a few, the well is running dry on people willing to sell/buy in the used marked because of the additional hassle where a CPL should put everyone's mind at ease.

:frust:

I am currently transferring a gun to a guy without a CPL via an FFL...sweet baby Jesus - it's a fucking disaster. I'm not doing it again. Honestly, if you don't have a CPL - you should be even more motivated to get rid of 594 - you're in a world of hurt trying to buy a handgun without one now.

What is this 594 you speak of?? Is that a process criminals are required to adhere to?

I had several guns to sell recently and decided I could not afford to run from hell to breakfast to meet people and then meet yet more people at an FFL. I got tables at both of the last WAC shows and that helped a lot and let me sell a bunch of other stuff that was piling up. The last two pistols didn't sell at the shows and sat here on WAGUNS for a week or two. I finally moved them to consignment at Pinto's in Renton. I'll take a 15% hit on the fees but my time is worth something and they do the BGC.

It sure sucks having to run around like an idiot and spend money to comply with a bad law.

 ouBecause of 594 I made a special trip up to Precise Shooter today and fought traffic the entire way. As expected, great prices and lots of cool stuff to spend money on.

Used private party sales are pretty much out for me. As stated above, it's not worth the hassle.
...and they pretty much have created defacto "registration" for any firearms that are out in private hands that are sold/purchased from an individual through an FFL.
The new computerized NICS is a data base. Anyone who thinks they don't archive those transactions to know who has guns has their head in the sand.

That's why I sold all my guns and bought a slingshot and a bow.

And yet, because of this new law, weapons ownership climbs as it's a complete cluster to sell so, the safe just gets more full.
And when a safe is breached by a bad guy, just more weapons to steal and sell without the background check.
