I educate where I can.
Coworkers, friends, family members.
Two years ago my sister was a "guns are evil" supporter.
Over those two years she has shifted. She's now a "I'm not sure I could shoot someone if I had too. (Which is a perfectly valid position) but she now owns pepper spray, and carries it at work...in violation of her job's policies.
My mother was a "there is a time and place...but not all the time and not every place." person. She now keeps a shot gun at her house in the boonies.
I have a coworker suffers from sever liberalism.
She is now considering pepper spray for both herself and her 14 year old daughter.
The key to these changes are not, "you have a Right!"
Instead I give them examples they can relate to.
Sister works in a DV associated organization.
What's your plan if a bad guy comes to do someone harm?
Mother "what's your plan if tweakers show up beating on the door? Your 20 minutes outside the small town...it will take the LEOs at least that long to get here.
Coworker - you use public transportation and you can't tell what address you are at half the time (she really is location impaired...one of those " the sun is setting..which way is west?" She points north.)
How are you going to tell cops where you are? Is that before or after the bum hits you and takes your wallet and your meds?
All of these key on a realistic fear all these people have.
It only posed as a question and never with hostility.
I offer them options they could use. A firearm is the last offered, but independent, self protection is is the message.
I'd love to do more, and am currently looking for ways to make that happen.
I figure for every 1 I can get to say, "I have the right to defend myself" is one less likely to vote as an Antigunner.
And if they bring 1 person away from the radical side, it have cut the AG side by 2. As of right now... I think my conversion is closer to 11.
