That's $0.026 per round. No business is selling at the price nor that quantity at once "out the door".

Which means you included tax so you paid about $59 for 2500 rounds of .22LR

You know when someone tells you a story that is almost too good to be true...

I dont see that the normal big retailers are gouging much i see it more at all the little arms stores that are trying to get a start (GREAT business model by the way) and the show circuit bozos. When i happen upon some before the asshats find it its usually around .05 a round or im not buying it

Also as a benchmark... for those in the market...

For pure plinking .22LR best price right now is running about $0.07 per round ($3.50 a box of 50).

Realistically right now it's about $4.95-5.95 (so in the $0.09-$0.11 range).


Now if you can buy CCI Mini Mags it was around $0.06 - $0.08 per round. Now it's running around $0.10-$0.14 (which is about $10 - $14 per box of 100 rounds). Yes, there are places that charge more.


So please benchmark what you are willing to pay with what you are buying. Meaning if I can buy Mini Mags for $10 per 100 rounds... it's not a bad deal. There are a few places selling it for about $9 ($0.09 per round).

It gets frustrating trying to get enough just to take my 13 YO son out shooting.

I tried to explain to my father that the .22 ammo shortage was demand-driven. I asked him:

"If a store had tons of .22 ammo, for $20 a brick, how much would you buy, after experiencing this shortage?"

"Yup, that's right, cases upon cases."

If everybody is like us, how many cases are needed?

Yeah...they can't produce that much.

If anybody has an extra case or two, please let me know. :)

I buy as much .22 I can whenever I see it, assuming it's not too outrageously priced.

So, to keep it clear that was going for $0.074 per round (not including shipping and tax).
I typically use Cabelas as a benchmark on the higher end of normal prices.

I started this thread for that exact idea... Demand driven. As you can see from the "poll" there is still a high demand... so unlike the AR and AR magazine shortages where demand dropped off (steeply) and there was a huge supply = why you are seeing almost better prices on AR, AR parts, AR magazines to some extent.

.22 still faces a HUGE DEMAND and will even when supply is slowly catching up. It's a STEEP curve and will last a lot longer than anyone wants.

So, bottomline line - you will pay more (if you want to shoot .22 in the near future).

I'll take that one step further...we will pay even more in the distant future because the demand for .22 LR will only increase. The price per round may have doubled in recent years, but it's still the cheapest round to shoot. Nearly every shooter has at least 1, and it is probably the most frequently shot firearm in the collection. It's easy to put 500 rds of .22 down range on any given range day. Newcomers to the sport are often introduced on a .22, and many of us are actively engaged in these efforts. Conversion kits have increased in popularity, as have AR-platform .22 rifles. It's a great round for hunting a variety of game. It's a very fun round to shoot suppressed. There are so many factors fueling the demand for .22 that it's almost impossible to envision a time when the price will have returned to "normal". I hate to say it, but I think 8-10 cents per round is the new "normal", and the old "normal" is now the exception. My guess is that 10 years from now, we'll wish we had bought more when it was 10 cents per round.

I don't shoot .22. Part of the reason is availability. When it becomes more prevalent, I'll get a 10/22 to go plinking with the boy, but until then (and until he's older) my ammo dollars go to 5.56 and 9.

22 is a blast to shoot though, just not enough availability to get a .22 rifle or pistol yet.
