The guy is a bonafied moron. Who goes to the Airport carrying? It doesn't matter if you are 'used' to carrying it or not. Guns on airplanes have been banned since the 1950s. It isn't like this guy was on his way to Lowes and suddenly found out he was going to go on a flight. They guy had to buy tickets, check in at the airport and walk all the way through security.

What an idiot.

Semi-related question: what if you're going to the airport but not flying? Say I'm picking somebody up and helping them with luggage at the baggage claim. Went there a week or two ago and never once saw a "no firearms" sign coming into the airport, parking, walking in, etc.

The security check is the line in the sand.

I carry at the airport whenever I am NOT flying. It's not illegal. You can carry at the airport (open or concealed) at all locations not secured.

Quote:
e) The restricted access areas of a commercial service airport designated in the airport security plan approved by the federal transportation security administration, including passenger screening checkpoints at or beyond the point at which a passenger initiates the screening process. These areas do not include airport drives, general parking areas and walkways, and shops and areas of the terminal that are outside the screening checkpoints and that are normally open to unscreened passengers or visitors to the airport. Any restricted access area shall be clearly indicated by prominent signs indicating that firearms and other weapons are prohibited in the area.

I've actually done that. ...forgot that I was carrying while traveling. When I got caught though, they just retrieved my checked luggage and I declared my firearm but had to give away my ammo to the police officer escorting me. I don't know why this is news. ..

If your ammo was in a magazine, it meets the ATF & TSA definition of carrying ammo in a device designed to carry ammo. I put my loaded mags in a mag carrier and put them in the same lock box as the pistol.

I wouldn't

I've flown 3x in the past couple years, and each time I've had improvised weapons with me...

TSA is a fucking joke.

The last time I brought a stabbing tool a pen, a choking tool a belt, and a device to smash a hole in your skull a monkey fist Keychain , and enough material to heat a hole in the side of the aircraft your shirt ....

All A-OK, by TSA standards.

They're a fucking joke.

Good job you got one over on them

Nope. You're almost correct on the first one, but still off..

You're WAY OFF on the rest of the shit though. 3 of the 4 were specifically designed for those functions, 1 is well known to perform that function in an ancillary capacity.

I think next time I'm gonna bring a parachute as a carry on, just to fuck with people...

Even taking your list illustrates the TSA's function as nothing more than security theater. The planes on 9/11 were hijacked with box cutters for fucks sake. A ballpoint pen can do as much damage or worse if used the right way. You're now even allowed to bring small pocket knives on the plane! Test after test shows them severely ineffective in detecting rudimentary incendiary devices. They do nothing but condition the American population to accept dragnet policing and unreasonable search and seizure.

I once carried on a 4" fixed blade stainless knife by accident - that's right, in my carry-on bag - not just through security on my departure, but on my return as well. They missed it TWICE. I found it when unpacking and sat there in disbelief as I concluded it had been there the entire time. I never had much regard for TSA's competence before that incident, but now I have absolutely none.

That's because of the safety mechanisms built in, which are easily bypassed.

Raw cells have no protection...

Some battery chemistries are more volatile than others, think past Li-Ion.
