I'm sorry Jim, but I'm afraid you cannot do that.

We are NOT 12 year olds. We are adult American citizens.

Based on what I've seen lately that isn't necessarily the case. Way too many "adults" behave like 12 year-old's and aren't smart enough to realize that behavior gives the "Government" all the excuse they need to step in and "protect us from ourselves".

It's not just cars or guns, it's just about everything people do that requires a little thought and or maturity.

Think we're way past 2001, but this thread derailed enough to be an odessy in its own!

I blame it all on estrogen and antibiotics in our food and water.

We are now a nation of mostly big tits, big dicks, and no brains.

Then, early onset dementia ensures that no one knows what to do with the big tits and big dicks.

Total waste of natural resources.

Natural selection has a big back log to catch up on.

It will be interesting to see how this plays out. I can see it then going back to other technology, like rooting a phone, jaibreaking an ipad or installing Linux on ANYTHING that didn't come with it.

OBDIII has been in development for some time, and is supposed to have a 2 way radio communications network built into it, to remotely monitor data (short range, within 50'), and also allow remote disabling of the vehicle, supposedly at the request of the NHTSA/DOT.....

So, in the future...

You have a MIL, and if you don't have something like OnStar, you drive by a reader in the road, your car tells WSP that you have an emissions problem, they swing by and cite you.....

I never thought of that! And it explains everything

Those bastards actually do have the Hal 9000 on board and it controls the Pod Bay doors. :ROFLMAO:

Ever try to re-home the automatic sliding doors on that sucker????

Truly Infuriating at best.

It will be interesting to see how this plays out. I can see it then going back to other technology, like rooting a phone, jaibreaking an ipad or installing Linux on ANYTHING that didn't come with it.

A number of manufacturers are already testing a type of kill system for pcm/ecm/module controls. Where if the data is read without proper factory equipment or some systems operates outside design limits, it either shuts down, erases operating code or goes limp mode.
Bad things are if it has a glitch, or someone sends data wirelessly to purposely disable vehicle, Joe geek with nothing better to do.
Software is already built in there to disable wirelessly with proper equipment.
Gm is one of the Corp on the forefront. Bastards already charge through the roof for the abilities to read and program and many small dealerships suck wind because of that. Hell, Ford charges $1200 a year just for access to reprogram, that doesn't include hardware that changes every two years. I'm sitting on roughly $6k of hardware and software that I can no longer use and isn't worth but scrap prices.

The day is just a blink away that we no longer own the code and operating parameters for new vehicles, and any attempt to circumvent the system will result in a very spendy experience.

This isn't something new and has been worked on for a number of years now. The testing is being done, and the legality is being hammered out in regards to ownership and safety.

Shit, even my damn bike had to see the dealer for stupid shit such as resetting oil change, up until I flushed my wallet of $400 just for a device that I could read SOME trouble codes and reset oil change reminder. No generic tool was iso compliant so out with more money.

I really fucking miss point and magneto ignition systems.....

:plusone: I also did not get any big tits. If I had them, I would rarely be in this forum.
