This is why automatic, classes will be canceled, policies are bad.
A gun at school is now the modern day, pull the fire alarm. Same with, hit lists, and bomb threats.

These kids should be quietly be expelled for the year. Leaving the rest of the school unaware where johnny went.

Mass news about the kid, the intent, the background and all that just encourages repeated behavior.

Really? Some kid brings a gun to school, my kid does what any person would do and gets the f out of the area and he should be expelled?

First off, he wasn't the only kid that left the school grounds. About 1/3 of the kids left. He called and asked me if he should go back there. I said HELL NO, don't go back to where the gunfire is located, don't drive your car on the same roads where emergency vehicles may or may not be trying to get into and don't interfere with the police doing their jobs.

Secondly he contacted his parents immediately. If a kid wasn't present then I can understand the school checking but all it would take is a phone call to figure out that he is fine.

Third, what makes you think that automatically this was just a single shooter. He didn't know that. For all he knew this could have been a couple of kids working in tandem. The 'rally point' was the high school football field. What if the first shooter was some kid trying to get all the other kids into an enclosed stadium with limited ingress and egress while another kid with a rifle picked them off once they got there? It's easy to see stuff in hindsite but IMHO the kid did the right immediate thing by getting as far away from the shooter as possible.

Fourth, despite what is being said on the news, the 'shooter drills' did not include the actual high school students. I asked my son what kind of active shooter training they have done and he told me 'none'. I'm sure there was training with the staff but none with the students. So you are basically saying that my 3.6 GPA, college bound senior should be expelled two months before he graduates because the didn't follow a protocol that really wasn't rehearsed with the kids.

Brilliant.

I think he was saying the kid with the gun should just quietly disappear from the school system. Not your kid.

Heard today on KIRO radio there was an armed Public resource officer that drew his weapon to shoot the shooter but didn't have a clear shot. Then the teacher tackled the shooter.

Yes, there is a Lacey PD officer on site. The kid knew that and was trying to get him to shoot him. I'm glad the officer didn't shoot. It is quite possible that someone could have been hurt that way.

The kid with the gun won't be expelled, he will be part of the justice system for a few years.

If that is what he meant than never mind but this wan't a false alarm.
