Aside from your standard end of the world conversations about what humans will do to each other. The world is going to end due to Aliens. Even having contact with another intergalactic sentient life form will change humanity as we know it. Or governments actually coming out and admitting it. Religions will have to adapt, or implode due the fact aliens don't fit into the scope and sequence of most religious teachings. Which has the potential of causing mass hysteria on a global scale. This also depends on how aliens make contact, as well as our response. Aggression from them toward us would only result in retaliation and vice versa. Both could end very poorly, especially if they have advanced technology and weaponry. I think in a lot of ways, and with the discovery of so many new planets around the universe, we as Earthlings would have to be pretty naive to think we are the only sentient life form around. However, this could also unite countries and other groups in the world, as Earth could potentially have a global common enemy that everyone hates.

1. Islam....the West gets fed up with their bullshit and a full on Holy War begins, people choose sides and the fighting begins
2. Russia, their desire for oil and Putin's arrogance gets the best of them
3. China, after decades of exporting the female born babies, the Chinese men have no one to mate/marry and decide to take over another country (Japan?) for their most basic natural resource
4. Depression, World Bankers decide to cause another depression which leads to revolution and eventually world war

No, seriously, I think the cause of the eventual demise of the human species will be related to overpopulation, and the ensuing lack of water and food, which will cause wars to break out worldwide, which will trigger the eventual rogue nuclear attack, which will result in nuclear war. In 50 years or less, I honestly believe water will be more precious than oil.

The reason they are going to Mars (IMHO) is to study it and try to figure out how long we have left on this planet. The Sun is expanding, and signs are pointing to Mars at some point possibly having been a habitable planet, having been killed off due to the Suns expansion over the millennia. The problem is, I think some other natural cause will do us in first, either mega volcano type eruption or asteroid strike. It's happened before, and will continue until the Sun sucks it all in for the final answer.

Nah - warmer means splitting less firewood to stay warm.

The world will get swallowed by the sun as it dies and becomes a red giant...

However, humans will have been extinct for millions of years, at that point.
