Shockingly positive experience with TSA

I hate flying only because the TSA's security theater checks are such a hassle. I have to schlep my stuff to the x-ray machine, chuck it onto the conveyer belt just right so that it fits into the machine, empty my pockets, take off my shoes, take off my belt, hold up my pants so they don't fall down, tell them "no thank-you" when they wave me toward the naked scanner, waddle over to the side so my pants don't fall down, get awkwardly rubbed down by a dude in latex gloves while he describes his every move, get a short lecture about how safe the naked scanners are, waddle back over to my stuff while trying not to moon everyone, put my belt back on, put my shoes on, then go on my merry way. All while my wife has waltzed through the metal detector with my kid and my kid is now screaming because she's done standing around waiting for dad. You know, the usual travel drill...

This weekend was a family vacation to Disneyland and my daughter and I got selected for pre-check. But my wife did not since she was on a separate reservation. So we all went through the regular lines together at Seatac and it was the usual pain in the ass.

However going through security at John Wayne Airport, TSA was actually helpful and really friendly! The agent checking our IDs pointed out my wife's license was expired, which was helpful because she didn't realize it (they did not note this at Seatac - makes me wonder how closely they checked). She then gave me a pre-check card which let me keep my shoes and belt on even in the regular line. Once we got to the x-ray machine, an agent helped me load everything onto conveyer belt. And when my daughter started crying because they took away her backpack, another agent ran up to her with a sticker to distract her.

Once on the other side, another agent helped me unload from the conveyer belt while yet another was making funny faces and being silly to entertain my daughter until her backpack had cleared the x-ray machine.

I was very glad to actually have a positive TSA experience rather than the royal pain in the ass it normally is. So I even took the time to mention to their supervisor and fill out a comment card. Hopefully this kind of treatment of passengers will spread.

I figure that they probably never hear positive feedback. And a crew like that needs at least a hat tip from one of their customers to keep them rolling.

I have rarely been hassled by the TSA.. I just follow the rest of the sheep and be on my merry way.. Small inconvenience for what memories hopefully await you at your destination.

I am really glad to read how they treated your child. To me, a father, if you treat me like crap but make my kid laugh.. Then you just went up in the cool book a little.

My wife also refuses to use the makes scanners. Now that we have a kid, TSA doesn't even direct her to it for her to opt out. They automatically send her through the metal detector.

I've often considered just stripping down to my boxers, because like you, I don't care if they see my hairy white ass. But I think that my wife would kill me...

I put up with the pain in the ass screening as its a necessary evil. I don't have the time to drive everywhere. Like you, they can do whatever to me. Just don't mess with my girl.

They've never hassled my wife when she's carrying our daughter. It's always easy. This time, they made it easy for all of us and really went out of our way to have fun with my daughter.

often when I go through SEATAC, there is usually a line or two that seems to direct folks to the metal detector instead of the backscatter. Allegedly, the backscatters have been or are being removed or changed.

I've heard that if you wear this to the airport, you are likely to get special treatment (work safe, for H2Obouget)
