I'm about to start delivering pizza at night to make some extra money. Believe it or not, I've never owned a vehicle gps before. Would use my tablet, but my service is spotty in the neighborhoods here in Puyallup. Can anyone recommend something for $100 or less? Are they all the same these days?

I've got the older model than this and have used it for years. After tax just under 100$

Bring your map and ride shotgun. You can be my RIO, and we can use 2-ways while I'm on foot. Copy Goose?

Assuming you're using an android tablet download a navigation app like this one: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.here.app.maps&hl=en Then go in to the options and download the offline maps for Washington, that way you don't have to worry about your cell reception. There are other apps available but I've had good luck with that one.

Go to the local pawn shops. They usually have lots of them. Pick 2-3 of them.
Don't pay the price marked. Tell them, "Price seems high...what can you do about that?"

I get newer stuff all the time at pawn shops for 20-50% off retail.

Go Garmin. You can get free updates when you hook it up to your computer at Garmins website.

a big ass map is what's best. GPS devices aren't 100% accurate. i drive big rigs and have never used a gps device to find places. google maps is also good if you have a smartphone. just download the map app, type in the address, and it'll show you where it is. it won't tell you how to get there. that's for you to figure out.

i delivered pizzas for 4 years of my life. when you finally become awesome enough at it, your tips will exceed your hourly wage. there were nights that i would bring home $150 in cash in just 6 hours of work. i always had spending money. apartment complexes that didn't have maps were the biggest pain in the ass. the gated ones without known gate codes were also pains. i often found the nearest building number or address, parked it, and hopped the fence. time is of the essence when it's cold outside and it's raining. the sooner you get it there, the better and happier the customer is their pizza hasn't gone cold.

Actually a two man team would be a faster pizza delivery.

The driver who never gets out of the car, and the delivery guy who jumps out and makes for the door.
The car is never unoccupied, and the driver can drop the doorman and then worry about a place for the car, or just loop around the block.
Now if you can just figure out how to pay the driver you're all set.

Hmm most pizza places close at 1am...newspaper delivery starts at 3 am...do the same team effort there, and we might be on to something.

Getting around....I drove tow truck for 12 years in the South King County Area...before the common use of GPS, or smart phones.
We had the Thomas Guide.
You learned the roads. You learned which roads cut through, where your shortcuts are, and how the lights are timed.
If you just follow the GPS, you don't really learn these things. You just learn to read the GPS screen.

I ignore my GPS about 1/2 the time and take a different route. It is good for traffic updates and things, but the GPS route is usually the one with the worst traffic during rush hour.

I use the GPS to find where I'm going and then I just remember it. Nothing wrong with that.
My Magellan gives me a few options: faster route, all freeways, mostly freeways, no freeways, shortest route.
I also like the food and gas stations nearby thingie.

Fry's usually has them on sale. I only spent $50 on mine. Came with lifetime FREE updates.
