Staying on Ka'anapali. Well, both usrifle and I will be in Kihei, about 30 minutes south of you. We should try and plan a Maui WaGuns Meetup while we are all there! We could probably pull that off. We will pass through Kihei at least once on the way to a great snorkel spot down way south.

I bet I know that spot. All the way to the end?...or a bit closer to the start of the Sanctuary?

We may do both but the one we saw a ton of turtles in last time was the one close to the start of the sanctuary. Great place but a little hazardous on choppy days.

They opened new parking, (that was a problem) but you have to walk a bit. Turtles? I walk across the street from my Condo at 7:00 AM in Kihei and watch them every morning. I have literally touched a turtle from the rocks at my location. Snorkeling? Every time I go. Slow down and look around. Too many Hauli's get trapped into running around frantically searching for things. I go every 6 months, I make no plans, I do whatever feels right at the moment. That is a Vacation. We Love Maui.

That is slowing down, we just like the location. We rent a car on a whim once or twice for a day when we go, the rest of the time we wake up, eat breakfast swim/lay in the sun for a few hours, eat lunch then hit the pool deck with drinks. Might go to Lahaina for dinner, might just walk to a spot on Ka'anapali. We are far from moving fast when we go, and it's typically once a year but we skipped last year.
I see turtles 3 out of 5 snorkels right off Ka'anapali. But, we saw literally over 30 turtles in 45 minutes snorkeling that one spot last time and it was only my wife and i there. That's why i said a ton of turtles.

Are you talking about the hole in the wall beach in Makenna? That's a fun one for the kids to play around in because of the waves.
One of our favorite spots is just north of Poolenalena, at a firly large secluded beach surrounded by private homes. 20.6704243,-156.4440668, the coral jetty on the northern side of the beach always has a ton of turtles and the whales get very close to shore in that area.
Where we stay off of Lipoa st, the waters in front are turtle breeding grounds. At night, while watching sunset, you can usually see hundreds of turtle heads popping up. In the morning, they are all gone, headed to their local feeding spots.

Past Makena, all the way to the end of the road in the sanctuary. A bit dicey getting into the water, but amazing marine life right up to the lava shelfs.

Yhea, that's some dicey snorkeling. I wouldn't take my kids out in those waters, but it it regarded as some of the best aquatic scenery in all of Maui. Go a thousand yards south and you can go see the dolphin area too. The hole in the wall beach is just to the north of this house, 20.6266996,-156.443295 there is minimal parking, but the water is amazing out there. Getting in and out of the spits during larger waves is pretty tough/fun.

Sounds like a good place for a WAGUNS meet Dan. We can do that on the 27th or 28th if that works for you. A little snorkeling and lounging followed by some dinner and drinks at sunset. ...and I get to see that hot wife of yours in a Bikini!
