Turned 18 at Bragg. Didn't have to register for any selective service, I was already serving.

I registered in 1958 and joined the Navy a couple months later. I came home on leave 3 1/2 years later and got a draft notice. I went to the selective service office and told them they could not draft me as I had already re-enlisted. There were a bunch of funny looks on a few faces.

Whether you joined the military or not you need to have registered. It's a requirement for some things like the student loans mentioned. Also if you need a security clearance most of the time.

I got my TS no problem. I ASSUMED entering the military took care of SS. Never needed a student load though.

Not only did I sign up as required (frigging High School sent a list of all 18 Year Old males to the local draft board) but also got my "notice to appear" in May 1965. Just in time for all the "fun".

Too long ago to remember but if my memory serves right I didn't have to (or I might have and just don't remember since it wasn't a big deal having already signed my delayed entry papers). Turned 18 in 1977 and the draft had been over for a few years. I'd signed up delayed entry while I was a Junior in High School. Didn't matter though since come graduation, and time to go in, I'd been in a motorcycle accident and was in a cast from my toes to my crotch. Took 2 years before the Army would take me after that.

Lost (won?) the draft lotto in 1971. I was #198. I was also a sole surviving son as both older brothers were in the Army. Dad convinced me not to enlist even tho I had auditioned and been accepted into the Army Band.
