Siding shouldn't be tight to the top of the window like that.

Was this bump out added after the house was built?

That light is in a terrible spot, both for water off the roof and lighting in general.

Sorry if I seem... I don't know, 'douchy' for lack of a better term. I'm not trying to nit pick your house but the light and siding are kinda 'in my face' bad.

No. I don't really care about the light but what is this bullshit about the siding and the window?

The Balrog caught a baby Garter Snake, about 4" long. You can see it there, barely.

So she wanted to toss it in the pond because she has seen other snakes swimming in the pond all the time.
She gave it a toss about 5' from the shore and it happened to land within 1" of a big frog.
*Pop* snake disappeared inside the frog. It was instantaneous.

I looked over at Dread Princess (who was apparently armed with a camera) with my mouth open like "OOOOOOOh" heheheh
Dread Princess returned the look "Do you think she realizes what happened?" Asking things in a hushed voice doesn't keep secrets from 4 year old Balrogs.
She seemed kind of fond of the snake, and I really didn't want to explain what had happened to the 4" snake, so we distracted her and I got back to work.

Nature is brutal. Almost nothing but humans die of old age.

There is a caulk filled gap. I don't get what you are saying. Plenty of houses are made this way.

Just because everyone does it doesn't make it right. The caulk will fail and the bottom of the siding will soak up water.

https://www.realcedar.com/siding/installation/
Siding or trim should be ¼ inch above the flashing ledge. Do not caulk where the flashing and trim or other materials meet. Note that caulking in lieu of flashing is not acceptable.

A 1/4 in. clearance must be maintained between James Hardie®
siding and trim products and any horizontal flashing.

Fascinating the cedar guys are so anti-caulk. Frankly in nearly 40 year of homes, most all were cedar lap siding. The only problem I had in two houses were southwest facing and a couple pieces cupped badly. But most all had caulk in places. Anyway does not surprise me this builder screwed it up, seeing how he had no flashing at that sill.

The caulk from the previous paint job had not failed and this last guy did a great job of caulk removal and redo.

I will make sure my new piece of cedar siding is .25" above the top of the slider.

Also, why is her flashlight pointed towards the sky?
