I am free because I say I am. My freedom is not dependent on any government benefit or piece of legislation. My rights are inherent in the fact that I was born a sovereign being. They are non-negotiable. The government can list them and protect them, but my rights are not theirs to give away.

I remember checking out the original Monster Manual from the Bothell Public Library back in the early 80s. I think I was 8 or 9. I was like, "Dude..THIS is in the library? Totally rad!"

Not to mention its style of play has launched so many other dice-based RPG games. My friends and I used to have monthly game sessions. D&D, Star Trek TOS, one friend of mine even designed his own based loosely off the Firefly series. Good times.

Back around the turn of the millennium, while my fellow Marines were busy whoring and drinking, I was busy creating a during/post WWIII RPG. And drinking. Small sample: It was fun, but a little TOO realistic. Getting shot was no joke in this game. Pretty much the weakness with any combat-game, whether on paper or a video game. Unattended wounds will kill you! Getting shot in the head with a .308 is game, set, match...you get the idea.

I distinctly remember a game that ended prematurely because we all got sucked out of the ship into space. Crit fail rolls are a bitch.

"The right of self defence is the first law of nature: in most governments it has been the study of rulers to confine this right within the narrowest limits possible. Personal weapons are what raised mankind out of the mud, and the rifle is the queen of personal weapons. The possession of a good rifle, as well as the skill to use it well, truly makes a man the monarch of all he surveys. It realizes the ancient dream of the Jovian thunderbolt, and as such it is the embodiment of personal power. For this reason it exercises a curious influence over the minds of most men, and in its best examples it constitutes an object of affection unmatched by any other inanimate object.
