Right, 35 years ago Mount St. Helen's blew her top killing 57 people.
Also the anniversary for the 1927 mass killing at Bath MI school, but not with our evil guns - a bomb. 45 people killed.

I was named after Reid Blackburn, a photographer for National Geographic who was on the mountain when it blew. He was my dad's best friend. RIP Reid, I'm bummed I never got to meet you.

I am free because I say I am. My freedom is not dependent on any government benefit or piece of legislation. My rights are inherent in the fact that I was born a sovereign being. They are non-negotiable. The government can list them and protect them, but my rights are not theirs to give away.

I lived in Yakima, WA., back then. What a mess it was !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I shoveled off three roofs and moved about 3 tons of ash over the next couple of months.
It was heavy like sand. We had about 2 to 3 inches of it on the ground, Made good crops the next year. Yakima city had so much ash clean up off the streets, they used it as fill dirt in some low ground to make a sports field. It had lots of soccer and baseball areas over several acres of ground.

My inlaws at the time lived in the mid west, Thy sent us a picture of their names written on the front windshield of their car that sat out side.

I guess I was 3 when it happened.. I don't know how I could have memories still of it, it must be from the years following, seeing the trees flattened and hearing stories from my parents.

I was a year old, and to this day my Mom still has a few 35mm film canisters of the ash.

Crazy stuff indeed.

I was 10 and in process of cleaning up after my older sisters party she had. BOOM at first we thought some one was blasting stumps. I went to the front of the house and a big ass cloud was going up. I about shat my self :runforthehills: this was the time of all the Nuke war TV shows . I ran in and told my dad . He flips on the TV and see's it was a volcano . Jumps in the truck and takes off. I was like WTF . He comes back half HR later with dust masks and extra air filters for the cars

Crazy day. I was a little too young to remember all the gory details but my dad was working up there for Weyerhaeuser and I remember my mom crying until he called from Morton.

Being up there a bit afterwards riding along in the trucks doing the salvage operations is pretty fresh in my mind, though.
