I know about the WGO shoot in Everett, but desire to take my kids to something more formally designed for Memorial Day. I'd like to see what events people have been to or can recommend. I've taken the family to the event in the state capitol rotunda a couple times, and I know that there are plenty of events around the Sound to be found searching online. But I'm looking for any advice on events that people have attended or heard good things about. Thanks!

I am a member of the Honor Guard for my department. We go to the Mt. Tahoma Cemetery every year to formally honor our fallen heroes and we stand there in full dress uniform until we feel like our legs are going to crumble while a bunch of upper echelon mucky mucks make inspirational speeches. Always see a lot of attendees there and it's a privilege for me to be a part of it. Going on my 5th year of doing it now. Unfortunately I signed up for the Everett shoot months ago completely forgetting about this commitment. Sucks because there is finally a shoot in my back yard and I'm unable to attend.

I work Monday morning. Im taking my oldest to the Willamette National Cemetary tomorrow morning.
Then Monday after I get of work a few of my brothers and I are meeting up for a BBQ and a toast to the men and women that have given all for our freedom, and possibly shoot some guns.

"Also, just a reminder about he VFW Flag Ceremony happening on Memorial Day. It is taking place 3:30-5:00pm at Woodlawn Funeral Home that is located at the corner of Ruddell Road and Mullen Road." Boy scouts, and vets do a great job every year. Unfortunately I will be working.

Thanks Ron for the info, and for your service - same goes to all the WGO vets. I haven't been to that facility, I think there's a good chance we'll attend. I looked online and saw a reference to speakers at 1pm, but parking is said to be limited. Any further advice about when to arrive or if parking can fill up?

In case anyone else is interested, I just found out about a group called "wear blue: run to remember". They have a chapter at JBLM that does a run every Saturday. Each event begins with the reading of the names of any local service members that passed in the prior week, then people can state the name of anyone they are personally running to remember. They say their events are open to people running, walking, riding bikes, running with dogs - for as much of a 5k or 10k that you want. It's always free. They have a Memorial Day run on Monday at Powderworks Park in Dupont at 9am. I think we'll be going to that and then deciding of we can still make the Mt Tahoma event. The wear blue event has runner's bibs that can be customized with the name of the soldier you are dedicating your run to, it's kind of a cool idea. Here's a link to their Facebook page, and then also a link to the bib to print: https://www.facebook.com/groups/jblmwea ... r/?fref=tshttp://www.wearblueruntoremember.org/up ... 282%29.pdf
