I am curious what you guys take with ya when you go do a day hike? Mainly intersted in where and how you carry your blades and fire arms.
I just got my first pack ( osprey manta 36) and I'm thinking of putting my short kabar on the left shoulder strap some how.

357 revolver AND 357 short barrel lever rifle. My biggest issues are cougar going after my hounds.

.45 XD in my holster, Kershaw Link Tanto, but when I'm hunting I carry a Rapala filet knife, a Buck Skinner, and usually a Buck 110. Always good to have multiple sharp knives for breaking down an animal.
Just ordered a Havalon Titan. We'll see how that knife does on animals this year.

I pocket carry a 642 J Frame. I forget its there. I swapped out with a buddy on my last hike with his OSWB LCR, I hated it. Back to my pocket carry.

I normally IWB carry an M&P Shield in the city. For hiking, I step up to the full size in an OWB. If I'm going to an area or in season with high predator activity (bear, cougar, ect) I'll hook a rifle on my pack, which one depends mostly on how long of a trail I'll be lugging it and my mood on that particular day. Other than that, pocket knife and a machete strapped to my pack.

I am free because I say I am. My freedom is not dependent on any government benefit or piece of legislation. My rights are inherent in the fact that I was born a sovereign being. They are non-negotiable. The government can list them and protect them, but my rights are not theirs to give away.

It's a contest between who screams the loudest, hoping instinct takes control when pulling trigger from the hip hoping safety is off and getting the shot off in kill zone while at the same time your shorts are filling up as she's jumping at you from ten feet away. Great campfire story now that I've lived through it, don't want to do it again.......

When I hike, I OC a S&W 642 w/ .38 Spl +P 125gr JHP in a Blackhawk SERPA holster. Very light, very comfortable, and very secure. I do wish it was a .357, though. Someday...
The only blade I carry is in a multi-tool.

Just hope my "gun" doesn't go off too soon.
