We hike every Sunday a different trail each time. I am carrying my 45 Colt commander with 255 grain hard cast bullet,+ P load , Colt has a 20 lb. Spring.

Bear bells on each of the boys' packs, and Lily, also with a bear bell on her pack.
I don't hike as much as I'd like to now that the boys are older and have "stuff to do", but yah, I should probably be carrying something. Not that it would do any good against a cougar--those MF's are on you before you can even scream--but that's where Lily comes in. She ran off a curious black bear and has run off more coyotes than I can remember--she sort of has this thing about predators. Lily would buy me enough time to react appropriately.

Ironically, more human attacks by black bear than grizzly. Simply because their are more blacks.

I carry a home made sling shot and a picture of Chuck Norris. Have not had one problem in the woods or on the street.
