I am in the market for a new king size matters. This will be my first new mattress in I can't even count how many years. My wife and I both have ache and sore backs most days. And I have had surgery on my in the past. Any good suggestions on a mattress or things to think of when buying.

Costco memory foam king mattress. Bought one 6 months ago and have been sleeping line a baby ever since.
And Mr. False flag. Look up cali king vs king dimensions, you might be surprised.

The memory foams on Amazon are a good deal. Many friends have them and love them. We have a temperpedic and love it. Sleeps as good today as ten years ago.

Stay away from Costco's Serta Pillow top (#3), kills the back.

Same here. It was pretty inexpensive too. We have had ours for 3 years now. Still loving it.
Also Costco's return policy is amazing on these.

This. My wife and I both have bad backs and the sleep number is the way to go. We have had two sleep numbers over the last ten years.
Do get a bed that has a his and her side for adjustment.
We had one with a pillow top that we loved, our new one has a memory foam top. We much prefer the pillow top since you can notice the changes easier.

What ever you do, don't settle for cheap. I can't remember what my mattress is but I do know it was right at a grand, and it's worth it as I need a good, firm, quality mattress for my back.
Stupid car accidents.
