Don't just look at mattress stores, check the furniture stores too, like Ashley and JR Furniture, etc. They have some nice mattresses for cheaper.
Try 'em all out, I'm one of those people that can't stand memory foam, and I didn't know it 'til I laid on one.

See now this is the toughest thing about mattresses. I slept for shit the first week on our memory foam mattress. It seemed too firm at first. Now I can't imagine sleeping on anything else. And that's why mattress shopping is so difficult. If I had to make a recommendation, it would be to shop somewhere that allows returns. You won't know what's best for you until you spend some time on it.
For us, the answer was Costco. Your mileage may vary.

Actually my brother just bought one of those about a month or so ago. He loves it. He has some back issues too, but wakes up pain free. Although he did say it felt a bit firm to him at first he's gotten use to it. I wonder how long that purple layer will last, eventually that stuff will break down I would think. I also watched a review from a guy that said there is talc powder used to keep the purple stuff from sticking to itself and dampening the noise. But nothing additional baby powder couldn't fix in the future if the talc ran low.

I hope you read the website I recommended that talks all about mattresses, not specifically one. It's like Consumer Reports for mattresses.

Don't buy it from Amazon, they charge sales tax. Buy it straight from Tuft & Needles website. (Don't forget to pay your use tax.)
Consumer Reports has info on mattresses as well. If you have a library card you can typically access their full website for free. Just login to the library system, search for Consumer Reports, and access the "Electronic item".

I loved my waterbed. Two problems though. Every night I had to move the cats out of the way. Had four cats and about 4-5 PM they'd take up positions in each corner of the bed 'cause it was warm. Second problem came when we had a 3 day power outage. It defined the term "cold and clammy". If I ever get one again I'm making sure I have a nice quiet generator I can run all night.
We ended up having to get out the sleeping bags in order to stay warm on that bed and it took a full day after the power came back on to warm back up.

Just run an extension cord out to the current bush. If you have trouble getting to sleep, you can put goldfish in the mattress and count them instead of sheep.

Finally got to try out some beds. My wife and I both agreed on a beauty rest. And we agreed on it pretty quickly too. Now we just need to shop around a little for the best price. Should have one in the next week or so.

Memory foam. Wonderfully supportive and comfortable. I believe mine is Serta.
Got one 9 years ago, and it's still like new as far as comfort.
I won't ever go back to a spring mattress.

After a couple of months of shopping for the best price and deciding on getting box springs or not we finally bought a mattress. We tried out 4 or 5 different types and comforts and we went with a beautyrest recharge extra firm and bought a new frame instead of box springs. Just bought it the other day through Amazon so just need to wait a see.

Well since this has been bumped, we just swapped out our sleep number bed for a Purple. Been a couple months now and we really like it!
