as an immigrant myself... I find these studies to be oversimplification and generalization of a complicated dynamic situation... and everybody can make up a conclusion that is not necessarily 100% accurate.. just probable..

I find it funny that they say I'm taking a job from an able bodied US born worker... last I checked, there's a doctor shortage nationwide and there are not enough US born folks to fill my shoes.. Honestly I'm thinking of retiring in the next 10 years and so are most of my peers.. and that will affect the economy as I won't be paying taxes as much as currently am..

for those who didn't bother reading the article... the conclusion is that immigrants produce a transfer of wealth from the labor force to the "corporation" in a substantial amount, 500billion is what they estimate.

So for those of you who have a 401K or any other investments... those immigrants just padded your bank account...

And Trump is one of the major beneficiaries of immigrant transfer of wealth -- because he employs a lot of them in his businesses... and own stocks on wall street.. talk about hypocrisy

so the truth is, you cannot generalize and lump everybody into one category.. there are immigrants that have paid into the economy more than we expect to get from the govt in our lifetime.. on the other hand there are many US born workers that have left the workforce and are living off the govt handouts..

"Unfortunately the report does not give a transparent estimate of the size of the wealth transfer from workers to firms, reporting instead that, on average, wages went down by 5.2 percent. It would be better if they had reported the number of dollars involved in that transfer. That number, it turns out, would be about $500 billion."

what they call an immigration tax is actually profit for the corporations/wall street... but they make it sound like the immigrants took that 500billion and made it disappear, when in fact they made the elite richer... what is not disputed is that for unskilled workers, immigrants lower wages... for skilled workers, I'm not sure that's 100% accurate across the board...

That's because they will take less pay and are desperate enough to do whatever they are told.

That sounds to me like you're confused about what unions do and how they do it.

We get stronger every time an immigrant joins us.

I've asked you this before.

I will ask again.

Did Juan Francisco Lopez-Sanchez coming here make us stronger?

and just to point out the obvious... all these anti-immigrant rhetoric is designed to channel people's anger against the wrong group... (in case you didn't know you were being manipulated by the elite)

as proven by this article.. it's the corporations that are making money from immigrants at the expense of all workers...

but they want you to be angry at immigrants so you don't protest against your employer and complain about their profits... employers don't have to pay immigrants lower wages, they can pay everybody at a higher rate at the expense of profit.. but profit is always going to come first... so they want you to be mad at Juan for accepting a lower salary.. instead of asking why Juan wasn't paid a fair wage to begin with..

and in case people forget, Trump is a big employer that has made money off the back of low paid immigrants -- who do you think keeps his resorts and buildings clean and profitable..

That's also precisely why unions have programs to recruit immigrants, because they understand the numbers, the strength of those numbers and the fact that paying Juan more doesn't mean paying you less. (The idea that they recruit Juan because he will work for less made me chuckle. That's not how unions work, and that's not how they improve your life.)

Unions in general increase wages and standards of living across the board, for union and non-union alike. How many of you thought to check with the carpenter's local before you hit your framing contractor up for a raise? I can't tell you how many times non-union people have told me exactly what union scale was when they asked me for more money.

When Juan crosses the border, he increases your standard of living. You should be welcoming him to the tribe, and thanking whatever panolpy of gods you believe in that he had the guts to leave his life behind and join us.

Personally, I've always done everything I can to make him welcome.

Too many straw man arguments and unique one-offs have been brought in to ever have this thread evolve into an actual rational discussion, which is sad. While we do appreciate everybody's input, especially those who were able to bring their personal stories into it, as soon as the narrative changed from "Illegal" immigration to just immigration, the argument was moot.
