TW . . . good for you for giving a shit, man. Everyone else kept on driving, and you went over to help. Kudos, brother. :cheers2:

Hopefully your video will help her out, too.

Yeah, I noticed that. Only one other person, the lady in the red car, even bothered to say anything.

She got transported to the hospital, obviously. But kent pd loved the video.

things are different here. In Maryland, if you cause an accident by running a red light, you're going to jail for reckless driving. and your vehicle is getting towed. I don't know what tickets, if any, this guy got. But he drove his van away. Kind of frustrating.

While the white van is clearly in the wrong, the driver of the car needs to have some retraining on how to cross a street. Look both ways before you go... would have saved her an accident and some broken bones. She came close (a split second) from T-bone of death. Had she looked first, we'd just have a red light runner white van.

the problem with this argument is that BOTH NB lanes are left turn lanes (RH lane turns right also) and when you're sitting there and the light turns green you can look both ways all you want. the 2 EB thru lanes can be stopped but that right turn lane has a green arrow. you don't sit there waiting for that lane to stop, because it won't.

(used to live about 3 blocks from there)

A lot of truth here, but let us continue...IF the van driver had followed the law, came to a stop at the RED light, the accident would not have happened, the woman would not have been injured and TW would not have a clear video of what really happened. Watch the video again, the woman had made a complete stop and started to make the turn before the van was beside TW. Retraining? OK, but her being in the wrong and sharing responsibility? I think not.

Yeah why do people suck so much?

I witnessed an accident. Car ran red light. Car with green light pulled out, hit red-light runner in the side. I knew that without me saying they ran the red light, the green-light car would get in trouble. So I stopped, grabbed a piece of paper, and wrote down basically this:

"Car with license plate XXXXXX ran a red light and was hit by car with license plate XXXXX" 206-666-6969 Snozzberries.

I went and gave it to the green-light car driver and left. A week later I got a call from Green-light drivers insurance company. Gave recorded testimony. Then the red-light drivers insurance company called me. Testimony. Then the police called me. Testimony.

I never hear anything else, but I hope that I helped them. I would hope that if I was in a similar situation, somebody would help me.

Also, I'm planning on buy a dash cam so I have some evidence of my own.

So I'm curious, did the police request a copy of the video or your information so that they could obtain the video later?

Well, I'm not sure if you've heard of it yet, but there's this new-fangled invention called electronic mail. It's actually pretty cool. So, instead of sending someone a copy of my VHS, or 8-track through the post office, I can send them a digital copy of whatever it is that I need to send them. And on top of that, it arrives almost instantly.

Lol. Smartassery aside, both officers on scene looked at me like I had three heads when I ask them for a witness statement form. Apparently I've been hanging around with state troopers too much. I guess Kent does not use them. They grabbed my contact information, exchanged emails, and I emailed them the video..

Your assessment is legally accurate. Van is per se negligent, meaning he broke the law and in doing so is responsible for the consequences.

Not to be confused with contributory negligence, in situations where say both actors are either breaking the law or not breaking any laws - then they share the blame by some %.

However, let's set that aside. I'm speaking of a self-preservation perspective. Blame the van driver, however, if she had died it does her no good.... that's my point. Say she was a pedestrian crossing the street and run over. Does her no good to wag her finger and say it's the van's fault, when she's being put in a box.

Oh, my. The driver of the van is in for a treat.

If I were the responding officer, they would get the full meal deal. Where to start?

First, the appitizers:

46.61.050 - Obedience to traffic control signal;
46.61.110 - Overtaking on the left;
46.61.400 - Basic rule (speeding)
46.04.672 - Vehicle or pedestrian right of way.

Now, the vegetables....

46.61.500 - Reckless Driving - Mandatory Court Appearance - Gross Misdemeanor

And, to complete our festivities, the main course:

46.61.522 - Vehicular Assault - B Felony.

Especially after seeing that video.

I have to commute through Kent and then to Sodo to just a stones throw from the stadiums. I see people running red lights ALL the time. On the way home from work the other day I was sitting at the stop light on first ave. waiting for a green to get on 509 (just north of the drawbridge) I got the green and myself and the guy next to me started to go. We got through the crosswalk when a driver coming off 99 (?) ran the red and kept on going. He was doing about 40 I think. Most of the time I look both ways before going through a light.

Damned technology! Next thing you know they'll have devices that automatically track workouts and monitor your vitals. Just kidding, that'll never happen.

You had me looking both ways at every green light I was at, today.
