I'd be looking at the newer body style without the plastic so fading wouldn't be an issue. I have a guy in the family that rebuilds transmissions so that also won't be much of an issue. And leather is a must have for me so I'll be looking at the higher trim packages.

Jp- how has it been past 100k? Lots of little things breaking or pretty reliable? Did the seals ever fail on your back wall or window?

5.3 is a good engine. Mine was still running strong at 256k miles. The transmission died so i decided to do the 6.0 swap while it was apart.

The 6.0 definitely makes more power, but nothing wrong with the 5.3

Rear ends aren't very strong in the 1500's

I'm definitely interested in the 6.0 but they're fairly hard to find and demand a premium due to their rarity.

The seals on my back window haven't had given me any fits yet, but I did have issues with one of the seals on my tonneau cover. Bought a replacement from Amazon and haven't had any issues since.

Life after 100k has been good, and some small things have needed replacing but just from general wear. I would have loved the 6.0 option, but when I bought this my budget was super tight and had to get what I could afford.

The one thing that does suck is when you have the back wall down and tonneau on, is the road noise is crazy loud.

Father in law has one.

I'm not impressed by it.

Don't forget the Cadillac Escalade EXT

I'll bet you could find a cream puff that's rarely even seen a dirt driveway.

2007 6 liter with only 73k miles. Only 2 owners. Always Washington owned. But... It's rwd https://seattle.craigslist.org/tac/cto/6192412707.html

2007 5.3 with 123k miles. Cheaper but higher mileage with 4 owners. Always Washington owned with immaculate service record. 4wd https://seattle.craigslist.org/tac/cto/6198506954.html

I've see plenty enough of these when I put out the 'For Rent' sign to know what their first question typically will be.

Biggest downside to an avalanche is that the plastic trim fades pretty badly after a few years, making it look pretty torn up. But that's just cosmetic.

Had one of the early versions and both my wife and I loved it - other than parking. It was before they had rear view cameras.

Only reason we got rid of it was that I needed more truck for the trailer we were buying (about 12,000 lbs) and ended up with a GMC Sierra w/Duramax engine. Very comfy and pulled the trailer like it wasn't even there even going from Seattle to So Cal and back. Only problems with that truck (other than purchase $) was the dang DEF and false alarms, reprogramming, etc. When we sold the trailer we decided that the upkeep on that truck wasn't worth it.

Don't need a truck any longer but if we needed one and didn't require a lot of towing capacity the Avalanche would certainly be on our short list.

Any thought on an old Bronco with removable top? My buddy had one and it was great.

Perhaps grow a mullet and go with an El Camino?

Or you could embrace your inner lesbian and go with a Subaru Baja.
