What's the punishment for killing a police dog?
This officer should receive the exact same punishment.
Also, any fines should be paid by the officer, not the department.

 :plusone:

It's always the taxpayers that pay for this in the end.

Unfortunately probably not much will come out of this. If the officer states he was in fear of his personal safety, it may go down as a justified shoot.
Police Dogs are sworn officers, one of the reasons the penalties against them is so high.
I do feel sorry for the dog and the dog's owner, that was jacked up

I care not if the shooter is a LEO. You come in my back yard and shoot my Dog. You are a murderer, and should be treated as such. If the Dog was attached to the shooter by his teeth then fire 'em up. It would have been so simple for him to ignore the Dog and leave.
Furry lives matter !!! This is an inexcusable use of deadly force....a member of the family was just blown away in the back yard for no reason. The alarm was cancelled long before the arrival of the piece of shit shooter....
To quote Mark Twain: "The more I learn about people, the more I like Dogs"

I'd be in jail if it were my dogs.

Yup. My dog loves people. She'll run right up to you and start licking. If I saw this go down in my yard, and was armed, the shovel would be digging 2 graves.

That was hard to watch.

But one thing the African American cop has not been trained that a dog's hair will stand up straight on it's back when surprised. All dogs do this. He reacted by the hair standing up. ( I pointed out his African American descent because it's a cultural thing for AA to be afraid of dogs and not understand their body language)

The tail wagging is a clue that it is still trying to determine if you're friend or foe. That first dog determined that he was friendly and wagged, backed off.
Unjustified shooting.
Strip him of his badge, let him cook burgers for the rest of his life.

Huh?

Did I say all cops were bad? No

I said THIS COP should be fired for what he did, as shown in the video. Those dogs were as friendly as dogs get. And the dogs were in a fenced back yard, causing trouble to nobody.

How in the HELL did that go to smearing my name and calling me a democrat?

WTF??

What I will say is that if a cop doesn't know the difference between a friendly dog and a dog on the attack, they shouldn't be cops. They have poor awareness skills, a key skill to becoming a good cop.

My stament was directed towards the OP. Sorry for not clarifying. As for the video, that shit is messed up. Looks like a bad shoot.

sorry, wasn't sure, we're good.

Evidently, the body cam footage has now been released. A little sickening to watch the cop shoot these poor dogs.

I'm not usually a fan of vigilante justice but... There are a few situations where I'd gladly look the other way....
