Tell your representatives and the FCC about it using this link: https://www.battleforthenet.com/ (for those of you who are techie's like me, this came from Stack Overflow).

You can write your own blurb or use the boilerplate provided.

I know many of us here make our living with computers, but many more are taking advantage of net neutrality without even knowing what it is or how it affects their lives. If they strike down the current laws, your ISP will be able to dictate access & data speeds depending on who pays them for that access & speed. The rest can limp along with what they'll deem "appropriate" access & speed if they don't want to pay a premium. The current rules prevent this, but the new FCC chairman (who's an ex-Verizon lawyer, what could possibly go wrong?) wants to rescind that law.

Go fill out the form and let your voice be heard.

We need to split up the cable companies, so that ISP's aren't also content creators/sellers.

Without Net Neutrality, Comcast will fuck over Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Video, etc etc etc, in order to prop up their own streaming service.

Your ISP and internet connection should be nothing buy a dumb pipe. Traffic shouldn't be impeded, sped up, monitored, changed, or anything else.

First Off I run an IT company.

This is one of those that think net neutrality is in ways a bad thing. Your points above are good ones which is why I am not strongly for or against. The middle would be better. While snozz is very right that there needs to be protection from abuse that Comcast, Amazon, etc... would use to lock out competition, the other side is if I as a company pay more for access and speed I'm stuck in the slow lane with people playing video games, spammers, sex traffic, and all kinds of other garbage. My business data gets delayed and slowed down cause its stuck with everything else.

For that above point is why there needs to be some type priority given without allowing monopoly. The biggest problem at the moment is basically there is a very limited # of routes for Information to flow. They are big pipes but with all the junk, data, noise, and what not flowing the pipes are still quite cluttered.

I don't know if there is a good answer to this at the moment.

sorry but I disagree with the current idea of 'net neutrality'. can you show me examples of companies doing this? It would actually be economic suicide if it got out. Like the postal service has different levels of package 'speed' there can be different levels of speed for your internet connection.

Netflix wins HUGE by keeping net neutrality. They have someone else build their pipes. Pretty cool eh?

Does your email need to be delivered instantaneously or can it wait 100 miliseconds? yes it can wait. that packet showing a video conference cannot wait however, or more importantly your MMO game packet needs to be delivered ASAP.

If the pipe is full and your traffic is being slowed down, then they need to unclog the pipe, not slow down everything else and put you in the fast lane.
You don't fix freeway traffic congestion by creating HOV lanes.

Net Neutrality keeps things the way they are. Getting rid of it will fuck everybody over. It's just more power to giant corporations. How much do you hate Comcast? Get ready to hate them even more.

I found this interview fairly informative. It changed a lot of my preconceptions.

Right now the Internet works fine because everybody keeps the pipes unclogged so traffic flows great. Once they get rid of net neutrality, everybody will let the pipes clog up, and your ISP will intentionally slow down your traffic.

First you'll pay $79.99 a month for internet. It'll be slow and always having problems as your ISP is throttling all your traffic and screwing you over. Why would they do this? MONEY!

Oh you want to use Skype to Video chat? Sign up for our Teleconferencing package for $10.99 a month and get great performance, no drops, no delays!
Oh you want to use a VOIP phone like Vonage? Sign up for our Voice package for $10.99 a month and get great performance, no drops, no delays!
Oh you want to play online games? Sign up for our Online-Gaming package for $10.99 a month and get great performance, no drops, no delays!
Oh you want to watch Netflix/Hulu/Online Video? Sign up for our Video Streaming package for $20.99 a month and get great performance, no drops, no delays!
Oh you want to surf the internet? Sign up for our Faster Internet package for $9.99 a month and get great performance, no drops, no delays!
Oh you want to bid on auctions at Ebay without massive delay? Sign up for our Auction package for $9.99 a month and get great performance, no drops, no delays!
Oh you want to look at porn? We block Porn because we legally can. Sign up for our Porn package for $39.99 a month and we'll unblock all those porn sites!
Oh you want your email to show up immediately? Sorry, we throttle it so it'll be delivered tomorrow, like the post office. If you sign up for our Email package for $3.99 a month, we'll let your email be delivered immediately.

You want to royally fuck up the Internet? Turn it into something as shitty as Cable TV packages? Get rid of Net Neutrality.

Net Neutrality doesn't change anything, it keeps things running like they are.

All this is going way over my head. I have never snap chatted, Skyped, Instagramed or # or tweeted. I only check emails and of course PORN at home. I come on this site at work...so my question is how will this effect me?

Right now everything runs at 100%. Without Net Neutrality, everything will run at 10%, and you can pay extra for faster speeds.

Also, WaGuns is a risky website. Risky websites will be blocked by your ISP. If you'd like to access Risky websites, relating to things like Guns, Ammo, Alcohol, Tobacco, You'll need to pay an extra $30 a month.
Do you want to work from home? Remote into your office? You'll need to pay extra for the "Work From Home" package. It's only $59.99 a month, which is a great deal compared to driving into the office.

Do you not like all these charges? Well, you can get fucked. Because Comcast is your only available ISP. I have 100mbit internet. My alternative is DSL for 3mbit.

Porn will be blocked because your ISP is owned by some nut-job religious extremists. No more porn for you.

You know what, the state needs more money. Let's impose a 5mph speed limit on all freeways. If you want to drive in the fast lane, you can pay an extra Toll. Innovation is great!

Comcast is my provider. I am unsure who we use at work but it is a business speed account. Never work from home or remotely as 11 hours a day is long enough.

Not an IT guy but i do know that tier 1 ISP's (cogent, ntt, verizon) have capabilities that exceed any amount of data you and i can putout.

fiber optics (multi mode) can run virtually endless amount of data on just a single fiber due to different color combinations. put it this way, when they shoot a beam down a fiber line, every line can carry different amount of data and there are virtually endless color combinations in the rainbow therefore there is no limit to how much bandwidth can be sent on 1 line, let alone a bundle of it.

granted, layer 3 equipment is limited at this point to 40gige ports, but 100gige is almost standard protocol, and 1kgigE is no longer a fantasy. what does that mean to you and I? expect all traffic to be high priority not just video/audio (vontage, netflix)

net neutrality is real. i want all my content to at peak speed, 100% of the time. because we can and we pay for it.

for the record, Telecom industry is a 7 trillion (with a T) dollar industry. I don't feel bad for them if they have to take a hit, let's say 0.00000001% decline in their profit to get with times.
