OK, this is not my EDC but it is my new hand forged, hand made knife from Montana Hammer Knives. Look at Montana Hammer Knives Facebook page to see some more extraordinary and unique knives.

If you aren't active- duty, ems, fire, or police, you don't qualify, no matter what Gerber says.

I will stop now and let the thread go back to Lumens and Blades ! :thumbsup2:

you're all good buddy. 40% of us are either active or prior service. :patriot:

in regards to blades, there are 2 portions. spring assist and automatic. spring assist is pre loaded with a spring and it pops the blade out when you put pressure on the blade and that is legal for everyone to own. here is an example. http://www.gerbergear.com/Knives/Assist ... _30-001205

I appreciate your response immensely, but ANY assist, gravity, or otherwise, is illegal per the regs I posted.

I'm prior service as well, brother, I just fail to see how Gerber's program supersedes State law.

Don't be mistaken, friend, I would love for it to be so. I love balisongs, fixed blades, and a number of others, but find the law prohibitive.

If someone can point to the error of my ways, I would buy them multiple beverages ! :cheers2:

Agreed, auto knives (switchblades) are illegal for the average joe in Washington, However, the phrase "any assist" isn't correct.

You linked to RCW 9.41.251, which just provides more detail about the exceptions to RCW 9.41.250: https://app.leg.wa.gov/rcw/default.aspx?cite=9.41.250

An important part of 9.41.250 is this clarification which was added recently:

RCW 9.41.250 wrote:A knife that contains a spring, detent, or other mechanism designed to create a bias toward closure of the blade and that requires physical exertion applied to the blade by hand, wrist, or arm to overcome the bias toward closure to assist in opening the knife is not a spring blade knife.

In other words, your typical spring-assisted knife -- which requires you to push on the blade to open it -- is not prohibited.
