I have never heard of a Subaru going past 200k without major engine work. I'll pass also.

We recently did some SUV shopping and bought a 2014 highlander. We really like it. Only complaint is a small fuel tank. I really liked the Venza but they only made it a few years, turned me off due to parts availability. I liked the pilot, check out an Acura MDX. Little nicer than a pilot. We have a friend with a Crosstour and loves it. Seems you are on the right track. I also liked the hell out of the Ford Edge and Lincoln MKX. My sister had one and it was sweet.

FJs are cool but sooooo impractical.

Had a co-worker with a really nice one. Was great for offroading but had a tiny trunk and horrible MPGs. Granted his was lifted and big tires, I think he said he got in the neighborhood of 13mpg

Toyota and Honda. reliable, dependable and easy on the maintenance.

If your going look at the Venza, you might as well look at the Highlander and Lexus RX.
And if you're going to look at fj you might as well look at a 4runner.
