NJ raises the smoking age to 21 'to save lives'

Fri Jul 21, 2017 6:00 pm

If it's killing that many people, why not just give up the tax revenue and ban it altogether?

I'm all for banning it. If cocaine and other drugs are illegal, would by not tobacco? It serves zero purpose. At least opiats get you high, and take you out of the shit situation you are in for a little while. Or at least stop treating tobacco related illnesses. So you have been smoking for 40 years and now you want insurance to pay for your lung cancer treatment? Get the fuck out of my office, you did this to yourself. Fuck tobacco.

Because tobacco is not a drug. Tobacco is used in pharmaceutical drugs. Tobacco is a natural anti-inflammatory and has other medicinal purposes.

Smokers are much less of a burden on the healthcare system than healthy people.
They are diagnosed late, not much for treatment, and don't live as long.

That is a fact, except my dad blew through half a million in cancer treatment his last year and a half on this earth. But on the bright side the tax payers didn't have to pay him that E-7 retirement pay past the age of 64. Would have possibly cost way more had he lived to 89 like his dad who refuse any kind of cancer treatment. Both smoked their whole lives.

My dad died of cancer at 67, never smoked nor drank.
Lived a healthy life, good physical shape.

Lot of factors involved.

Just never know when it's your turn.

I think California and Hawaii have done the same. Won't be surprised if we are next.

If it comes from the ground and is grown naturally, it should not be illegal. This also goes for the smelly green herb in my opinion.

I also admit I am extremely biased. In all honesty I would love to see a society where everything is legal and people that do things that are bad for you get zero help unless they can afford to pay for it. So you can smoke all you want, but unless you can pay out of pocket for cancer treatment you are SOL. Is that fair?

I'm all about the being responsible for one's own actions thingy.
I'd extend this sentiment to home building... Codes should be for public buildings, not one's own home. People grow accustomed to a .Gov who does things in the name of keeping them safe.

It's Pie-In-The-Sky though because we are overpopulated.

Go see India for what happens without building codes. I totally disagree with this point
