Refineries use natural gas in the refinery process to run the machinery and is often more economical than using the throughput to fuel the process. The Anacortes refinery suspended production briefly in response to the pipeline incident. Big pipeline explosion in BC a few weeks ago had all government users of NG (schools, governement buildings, and services), and government contracted users (utilities like Waste Management whose entire fleet of trucks run on NG)... all those consumers are required by law to conserve resourcesin time of national need... that's why many cities didn't get garbage services that first week. Pipeline supplies PSE with 2/3 of it's product. They stated that gas prices would spike as a result, since NG is used in the refining process (as hinted above). Since garbage service has largely been unaffected since, I would assume they managed to isolate the break in the pipeline and adequately reroute supply. Back in July. Cost of living is real low. Two BR apt is $540, gas $2.15, 1.75L of Canadian about $15.
