Well done, that's some 500 level problem solving right there.
I've had good luck with replacing all that with a load genie. It's a combination check valve and head unloader.

I don't have one on the RolAir that I use at work everyday but have put them on compressors I've used in the past. It simplifies the plumbing and eliminates the need for the pressure switch to unload the head.
