I've been doing it for years already.
Is that just for landlines?

Me too. I didn't know you could still just dial 7 digits.

I think it's been 2-3 decades since we were told this was a requirement... I might have still been in the navy, as I recall my father grumbling about how technology wasn't supposed to lead to more complications when I was home on leave.

Land line, what is that?
I program a number in my cell, then just press on a name.
10 digit, who cares.

In Colorado, we've had to use the full area code for well over a decade. Colorado added the 720 area code intermingled with the old 303 area code.

:plusone:

Now I'm tempted to make some 7-digit calls tonight just to try it . . . .

But the reality is that I hate talking on the phone, so I won't.

In the early 90s my dad was swapping over a phone switch system in West Texas from 4 digit to 7. It was one of the last ones in the State, there were old people beating on the door to the phone office yelling at him to turn it back. That shit was funny. Some people get mad over the dumbest shit.

I can remember word prefixes as part of a phone number. Mine was Melrose.

Melrose 5, 2819.

And my grandparents had an old wall phone at the ranch, where you would jiggle the hook to connect to the exchange operator, who would then complete your call.

And don't forget party lines...

Jeez, now I feel old....

I thought your dad had to send communications via the pony express when you were in the navy?
