Does War thin the herd and make America stronger?

You are only as strong as your weakest link. Does war kill the weak? The stupid? Does it thin the herd and make us stronger?

Did WW1 and WW2 make us stronger? Did Vietnam and Korea make us stronger?

Strong Men make Good Times. Good Times make Weak Men. Weak Men make Bad Times. Bad Times make Strong Men.

Is this country full of pussies because they didn't all get drafted and die in battle?

Not sure what you're getting at Snozz. Are you bitter about some experience? Do you have any suggestions to remedy the conundrum?

I think the weakest amungst us would do anything to get out of joining the military or serving their country. This does not mean all people that don't join are weak or that all people that do are strong. War makes us weaker. God I hope that came out right.

There was a quote I heard, maybe from "All Quiet on the Western Front" or "Das Boot" or some documentary... in relation to WWI... Prince William spoke a variation of the quote (I notice, without citation) in a recent observance of the Battle of Somme

Something along the lines that the "flower of a generation" was lost in the conflict....

I see that our finest, bravest, and most heroic are spent in foreign lands and have been for the last 30 YEARS! in wars in Iraq, and Afghanistan. Almost seems a concerted effort to bleed the nation of the best of the generation. One hopes that their sacrifice is worth the price paid and being paid.

I've often said under my breath that the "Greatest Generation" begat a generation boobs, so I can see what you are saying.

Travails forge men (and women) into tougher alloys, and they wish to provide for their off spring a world without the horrors they've endured. And sure, that seems to breed a "softer" person.

I also think that hard times help bring out strengths in many people. Easy times seems to make many people soft... Tough to figure out where the balance lies, or even if there is one.

War is government sponsored population and economic control. Whoever controls a countries currency or food source, controls that countries population. When the population becomes too large for the "controllers" to control, they must reduce said population quickly. By drafting and deploying the weak as well as the strong, they the kill two birds with one stone.

Very concise, and I feel, accurate description of war.

I shy away from over-arching conspiracy theories, although history has shown that there have been some doozies.
War bankrupts nations, and in the case of WW1 essentially placed all of Europe in the hands of bankers.
We the People lose wars even when we defeat our enemies.
It seems to me that the prosperity following WW2 had more to do with a credit economy than anything else. Good times had arrived, and people (including .Gov) were willing to borrow their children's money to get what they wanted at that time. Some of that was good, most bad IMHO.

I'm not getting at anything. Not bitter about anything. No I don't have suggestions. Just curious if people agree with this or not.

I like the comments by mcyclonegt and jukk0u. Curious what other people think.

If you want to see what war does to a country look no farther than England. Between WWI and WWII, the best part of their gene pool was eradicated. Same may also be said about Russia and other Soviet Union Countries.

I think war is a bust genetically. Sure, the weak will die from cowardice, but the strong and heroic will die from bravery. These days I think we lose our best to war. IED's and mortars don't discriminate between the brave and cowardly.

Recent wars have paid a toll on our military with pussified bureaucrats and their rules of engagement that keep us from winning, rampant cases of PTSD, bodies filled with shrapnel from IEDs, and many addicted to pain killers. Add to that crappy care from the VA in some areas of the country.

Looking in from the outside, I don't see the most recent wars making us stronger...
