That range is still crap for road trips due to few/no fast charging stations in most places.

And without road trip context, the Mitsubishi MIEV is more than 10k cheaper (though with half the range).

I'm just looking for something to go from Lynnwood to Downtown Seattle, or trips around town.
My daily driver is a diesel pickup, hard to park and gets shit mileage when cold.

It's piqued my interest. Did when it first was announced and you could lock it down with a deposit (I didn't, but wish I would have). I am a pretty big fan of how Tesla's look, drive and feel. If it were up to me though, I'd want the 44k version that has the longer range and all glass roof.

They make a good car from an ergonomics / driving / esthetics viewpoint - you cannot fault the car in those categories at all whatsoever.

Except for their SUV, which looks like a retarded catfish that got punched in the face.

But - range, charging costs, and charging time are the real deal killers.

Shoulda been a hybrid, so when you ran out of charge, gas or diesel power plant runs the generator to continuously recharge the battery.

The major issues though are - where does all the electricity come from to recharge a changeover for the world's transportation infrastructure ? Oh, and right now, clinical testing has proven that the cost of a charge is putting the electric car owner out of pocket triple the cost of a gasoline car measured per mile. But, you are saving the planet, and nuking the gay whales, right ? Wrong.

Right now, most electricity is generated by dirty ole coal, period. Also, environmentally unregulated battery manufacturing in China is not going to continue forever, so what does that do to cost of battery replacement, currently floating around $35,000.00 just for the battery itself ? And, what about the cost to dispose of a highly toxic lithium ion battery at the end of it's life cycle times millions ?

Until a virtually free clean electrical generating source comes along, a pure electric car does not pencil out as being worth the cost of being an early adopter test pilot for Tesla in my opinion.

From my standpoint, it looks like personal transportation cost is steadily being pushed up hill, so that only the aristocracy will have the privilege eventually - the rest of us will end up land locked, or traveling by bus and rail cattle car only.

I've questioned this with my hybrid and all electric friends. You don't always choose what electricity source you are pulling from, and much of the US burns coal. The only way around it would be to have your own solar system, maybe like the solar tiles Tesla makes ;), or wind turbine that would power your car energy needs. But that is an expensive route. Hydrogen seems like it would be a great option to explore.

What do you mean "nary a nickel will ever be seen again"? TSLA is trading a $335.07 a share as of closing today. At 105,176,752 shares that's a market value of $35,241,574,292.64. You want to see those nickels, just look at the NYSE. Surprising a company valued at over $35 billion can't repay the .gov a $4 billion bail out. Makes ya think, huh?
