I'm still unsure about a DIY section on the forum, but I'm pretty sure we can justify a "which safe should I buy?" section.

I bought a Browning Hells Canyon (ProSteel) safe from Cabelas, BUT it was on sale at a great price. Even with shipping it was $300 less than NW Safe. All that being said, I liked my visit to NW Safe, and had the Cabelas deal not come along, I would have purchased from them.
Try to avoid electronic locks, if possible. As with everything, it is outsourced and mine just failed after a whopping 2 yrs in service. If it was cycled 100 times I would be stunned, probably more like 50 cycles. Disgusting.

I chose the Liberty Fatboy from NW Safe. Just go there and you'll be glad that you did.

Be sure to check out their house brand of safes. Amazing value there. I got their Armor safe, which is huge and high quality (can't remember the dimensions offhand) for about $2300 delivered and installed. A comparable Amsec or Liberty is about twice that cost.
Superior and Summit also make nice stuff. Better than Amsec or Liberty, IMO. If I had a bigger budget I would have gone that route. Summit has a really cool slide out rifle storage for easy access.

it all depends on the model, the highest level of safe from AMSEC has few equals.

Tough question. Tough to answer...
What safe is best for you?
Cost
Size
Location
How much do you a budget for this?
Cheap - $300 to $800
Moderate - $850 to $1600
High - anything above $1800 to $2500
Specialized - because you are looking for a true safe.
In these ball park cost ranges will vary in size, weight and capacity. You want a heavy duty safe. The fire rating is good for documents and surviving a fire. But the main purpose of a firearm safe is keeping someone out so you want heave and more metal the better. You can find some heavy safes out there but don't be fooled because you are looking at weight coming from concrete not metal.
Size - you really want to stretch your butte and get a larger safe than you think. You can always store more stuff and over time that is exactly what you will do. In a matter of months or years you literally will outgrown the safe you have planned for your needs right now.
Location - is something folks need to factor. As it can lead to making it more difficult for someone to break into. Having layers of security.... like having a a safe behind locked doors or positioned so that it's difficult to get to can be added levels of protection. Having a safe bolted is a key. You may buy a half ton safe but seeing guys that have the right equipment move a half ton safe easily is an eye opener.
What is the right safe? Only you and your pocket book can truly answer that one.
But do checkout NW Safe! I highly recommend them to get a safe but especially to actually see what a safe really looks like and the true cost of one.

Fair enough. I was looking at the BF series. The locking mechanism on that safe is super chintzy. Especially for the price.
