I almost bought a Cabelas safe but I figured I would be paying for the name I think they are made by Liberty who has been to NW safes? Are they better priced? Or should I go with a different brand?

I am pleased with my Sturdy safe.
You should realize the difference of what they are made of.
Also look into Amsec. I'd go either Sturdy or Amsec for any serious collection.

Just put your stuff in a closet, then hang a 49er jersey on the door. Nobody will bother.
In all seriousness you should atleast make a trip to NW safe. They are great.

You should at least stop by NW Safe....
They are only about an hour or so from you, in Enumclaw, and they are nice guys.
They will educate you in just a few minutes, and then leave you alone to look around. They also have some used safes.
You could take that info and digest it, and then check with goldigger on here and see if you can get what you want with the Cabela's friends and family deal he is sharing with people.
Did not read tincanbandit's link, but he always has great info, too.

I shopped around a bit and went with NW Safe.
Fire ratings, door seals, and metal thickness were the best bang for the buck at the time.

Do you typically buy guns at Cabelas? No? Why? Because they are way over priced? Apply similar logic.

The vast majority of safes will have 10 or 12 gauge sides, back and top. So the most important part is the door. Make sure to get one with a solid steel door, or even a solid steel one with a step. The door frame should also be solid steel.
Stay away from any safe with a composite door skinned with sheet steel.
and what ever you do, do not buy a Chinese made safe

Do you want it for fire protection, or theft protection?
I contacted some insurance companies, and they only insure for up to like 10k in theft, but unlimited in fire.
Here is where I learned about safes:
https://imgur.com/a/90RYdRSC (Residential Security Container, or TL-5) Rating - This is a UL rated container that certifies the "safe" is capable of withstanding a beating by one man wielding a hammer and small crowbar for up to five minutes.
The vast majority of Gun "Safes" do not even have an RSC rating.

I just recently bought a Liberty Lincoln from NW Safe. As said, it's definitely worth a trip.

I like multiple smaller safes dispersed about the homestead.
Particularly the wimpy Stack-On that mount flush to the wall and fits between 16" centered studs. Easy to hide/camouflage.
If I were to go big might as well just step up to a safe/panic room.

+1 for NW Safe
Be sure to check out their house brand of safes. Amazing value there. I got their Armor safe, which is huge and high quality (can't remember the dimensions offhand) for about $2300 delivered and installed. A comparable Amsec or Liberty is about twice that cost.
Superior and Summit also make nice stuff. Better than Amsec or Liberty, IMO. If I had a bigger budget I would have gone that route. Summit has a really cool slide out rifle storage for easy access.
