Anyone ever own a Chinese Shar Pei?

One of the places that I have pre-applied for a dog for contacted me and said they just got in a baby male Shar-Pei black lab mix that is 8 weeks old.
I have ready that some can be uber territorial and protective of their family, while others temperament is like any other dog with the proper time and training.
Just wondering if anyone has any first hand experience with them?

Not first hand but a friend had one.
She came home one day from work, dog was sitting on the front porch of her double wide trailer.
Little bastard dug a hole through the bedroom floor.
Edit: Come to think of it, she hated that dog. Only had it because her ex husband bought it for her daughter as a Christmas present.

The owners I've talked with say the breed (generally) tends to exhibit above-average territorial behavior and some also have an unwanted level of dog aggression. Shar Peis are smart and affectionate with their people but also very headstrong and many have a real stubborn streak in them. It makes training more difficult than with some other breeds. Not impossible, of course, but be ready to be challenged. Shar Peis can be fantastic pets as long as they have a dedicated, firm, and very consistent pack leader. Starting them young gives the best results. Their background is mostly as a fighting dog and a guard dog (which order those came in is the subject of some debate). A partnership with humans isn't necessarily hard-wired into their personalities like it is with some other breeds.
You should also be on board with more grooming than an average short-hair breed might require. Their wrinkles sometimes need tending to in order to keep them clean (so they don't get infected) and they're prone to skin conditions that need to be monitored. I don't know how, or if, the cross with a Lab might reduce these issues.

I would home that some of that dominant temperament might subside a bit since there is some Lab in him. I have owned both a Rott-Doby mix and an Akita mix up until' earlier this year when they had to be put down due to cancer and Kidney failure so I have a pretty good idea on how to grasp and control the headstrong part. My akita was a handful in the beginning but came around in the end.
Being a mutt, the amount of wrinkles is far less than a full bred Shar Pei so I would hope that the grooming aspect would be less than normal.
Monster head lol

He sure is a cutie! No black spot on the tongue?
If you're familiar with Akitas then a Shar Pei probably won't present many surprises. I've only talked with owners of purebreds so can't speak to how Shar Pei mix personalities might be mellowed out.
Let's hope he grows into that head.

The only thing I've heard about Shar Peis is that they can develop sores in the folds of their skin, and need to be monitored and cleaned.
Being a mix, perhaps this doesn't apply.

Oh, and if he has a head bigger than his body, he's automatically eligible for a Waguns membership
