Would you buy this truck?

Thu Aug 03, 2017 7:39 pm

This 2011 Silverado diesel has everything I'm looking for in a truck. But it's at 188k miles meaning it's been running 30k+ miles per year. That indicates mostly highway mileage and the ad says that's the case, but I'm a little concerned buying in that mileage range. I've seen plenty of these trucks run well over 350k miles. The 6.6 duramax/allison 6sp trans are a great combo. The interior/exterior are immaculate, but the mileage still worries me.

What say you? Would you consider buying this truck?

"Bully Dog Tuner"................no mention of an aftermarket exhaust.
I hear some of the early tuners were hard on the engines..................
I'm sure adding a chip can reduce the life expectancy of the engine.

Mines a 2002 and only has 116K on it.
What's he been doing with it?
Those highway miles could have been towing a 10,000+ pound trailer.

What does the KBB say?

The ad says highway mileage but not sure if it's been towing on the highway.

KBB fair market value of $23,507

In a heart beat if he came down in price a little. KBB says 21k is the value. That truck is good to 500k. Don't be scared of miles.

Even if it had been towing on the highway, it's a diesel... can't hurt it that way. Only idling & slow speeds will kill 'em.
Also, the pictures are hard to tell if it's got a hitch.

KBB showed me $23,507 on private sale with the ltz and z71 package. All options considered.

I'd start negotiations at $20k and want to end up somewhere under $22k on final price. I watch Pawn Stars bro. Been working on my negotiation skills.

you don't know me from Adam, but that doesn't look like too bad a deal, provided the mileage wasn't a lot of towing. Even so, that's what those rigs were built for and at around 200K there just getting broke in. Do a CarFax and make sure it hasn't been crashed, or in the shop forever. Hard to tell from an ad and picture, but I'd sure give it a test drive.

I'd pass, I like to buy the lowest miles possible and end up paying accordingly

Ask to take it to your mechanic for an inspection.

If you watched Pawn Stars, you'd start at $18k + a Norinco and end up at $20K

I absolutely will. Anything over $20k is worth spending a couple hundred on a mechanic's inspection. One of those situations where a couple hundred can save you a couple thousand or more.

With just the basic info....and without knowing more....

I'd say 8-10K tops... Other than that, I'd walk...
