Because executing babies (even when their parents raised private money for treatment in a foreign country) was not enough, the UK NHS Single Payer system is delaying and denying routine surgeries to fat people and smokers.

All to make the system solvent...

I wonder how the democratic base would feel about being told if they are overweight or smoke that they can't get healthcare? Somehow Bernie failed to mention this when he began his recent push for SP in the USA.

Difference being here, if you get denied from one insurance company, you can try a different one, or worst case scenario pay out of pocket or raise the money through donations and find a doctor who will do it for $.

In the UK, doctors there are, for the most part, government employees and even if you raise private funds the government either orders them not to do certain surgeries for certain people or does not allow access to the ORs, which are all essentially government property. How are you going to get an operation without an operating room and the necessary staff, supplies and equipment?

I'm a fan of responsibility for one's own actions... So I have mixed feelings about this.

It seems to me that this preposterous fixation on living as long as modern science and modern medicine can keep a heaving carcass pumping fluids is, well, it's preposterous.

I agree though, that having a .Gov board decide that for you is a bit Soylent Greenish. Insurance is a complicated subject for me.

Knew a gal in 2003 or so, lived in BC.
Was out of work and on the dole for 3 years, used to be a bartender, wanted to get back to work.
Waiting for surgery on her heel, bone spur or something.
Still waiting for her surgery to be approved in 2005.
Guess it's easier to pay them to stay home and watch TV.

She wanted to come down to the US and have surgery, but didn't have the money to pay cash.

How about we avoid creating a system where back alley surgeries or a black market are necessary?

To do that it means defeating the Warrens and Sanders types and also party they belong to/caucus with.

I WANT HEALTH CARE that is based on me and my family. Personal choices. Lower prices. Not subsidizing others.

But what the fck does the government have to do with it? Get out of my life.

Look at the utter insanity of controls on the sub-pages here :

.Gov loves you and wants to keep you safe.

Given that 2/3 of Americans are overweight and nearly 1/3 are clinically obese, I doubt there is a huge market for skinny-only insurance, however in would agree that it would be nice to live in a society where businesses and people can make these choices for themselves rather than have it forced on them by the government.

How about we forget about insurance and figure out why a night in a hospital costs $3000 and an aspirin $50??

Between the inefficiencies, double dipping and malpractice insurance, I think we can make health care much cheaper, to the point that insurance wont be needed for most of us

You're making too much sense out of all this. Besides, how are you supposed to feed the Free Shit Army if you don't pay into "the system"?
