Last year, the Philadelphia City Council voted to place an excessive tax on soda to help fund pre-kindergarten education.

This tax was implemented in January and several problems have already emerged.

According to the Tax Foundation:

The tax, which is 24 times the state excise tax rate on beer, has received mixed reviews among constituents. Some Philadelphians support the tax for the programs it funds. Meanwhile, local business owners and workers have filed lawsuits against the tax.

...
Your tax has driven business out of the city and while increasing alcohol within the city.

This tax reminds me of something Seattle did... hmmm... can't think of what it might of been... :wink05:

These things always have repercussions that are ignored, many of which are presented prior to passage....

But all they see is dollar signs, and where the money will go, so batten down the hatches, and full steam ahead.

I will have been re-elected, and we will have the money, so who cares?

They say the money will fund "pre-kindergarten education." Is that a euphemism for something? Has the state taken over potty training duties?

It's for the children! The tiny, helpless children without proper parenting to keep them healthy and safe... :crybaby:
