A person called the police and said the cellphone was 'in the area', the police used that as an excuse to unlawfully detain someone absent RAS/PC...
The GPS in a phone can be off by as much as 100M, and are usually narrowed to about 10M under good conditions..... That means that it could be anywhere within 30 ft, and again, it wasn't narrowed down to that specific vehicle.. You can't stop anyone in a city block because 'it might be there'....
I see this as cops overstepping their bounds, and the guy doing what he felt he had to do to prevent an unlawful detention.
Not saying it was smart to not comply, but I'm not saying he's wrong either....
You'll notice they didn't say they found the phone they were looking for.....which they would have done, as 'proof' that the guy was bad and they did the right thing...
I see this as the complete opposite, cops had no PC/RAS, and this guy resisted an unlawful detention.....
We can argue all day about this guy being a good guy or bad guy or whatever, but his detention still needs to be lawful....
