so i'm looking for an inexpensive family car and came across this 2015 explorer for about $27k.
i need some opinions on a couple things....

it has 52k miles, should i be worried? i'm assuming it's a lot of highway miles, 25k miles per year is a lot for just commuting. has anyone had the 5th gen explorer for a few years? i think this generation started in 2011.

Hell no! Have you priced new ones? That's no deal at all.

New ones MSRP is $32k-$54k....

It's a dealer, maybe they'll haggle....

I'd find out all the 'extras' & figure out where it is on the spectrum in relation to new. I'd also ask why all the miles & just listen to the story

Just buy a new one. There is no deal in buying a used vehicle that has been driven hard with no warranty. For 27K, you can find something nice. Unless you know the previous owner and how that vehicle was driven and maintained, it is a gamble. Good luck.

My Honda CRV, Brand New, was 27k. I expect to drive it for 50 years and 500k miles.

Run away from that as fast as you can.

With 2018 around the corner, the 2017 prices will be slashed considerably since they don't want to sit on old stock. I would look for a new one and you would get a better interest rate also.

If you want a good deal without having to haggle, hire an auto broker.

I bought my last car through Amazing Autowoman and she basically saved me $6k between trade and new car price. It was totally worth her fee.

Thanks for the info guys. I went to kbb and it's priced right where kbb says it's worth. They went down to $25.5k, but still not sure about the car. Thanks for helping me make the decision to keep looking

They probably gave the last sucker $18K trade in and jacked up the price of his new car another $4K.
Never know how low they'll go until you make an offer. You have no idea what they paid for it.
You cannot offend a used car salesman, and so what if you did?

My BIL was a service foreman for a large dealership, maybe 5 stores.
Could get me anything on their lots for $400 above the dealerships actual cost.
I'd go down there, check out a used car, test drive it, and just ignore whatever the sales guy said.
Then if interested have my BIL pull the paperwork and check it out for me during lunch.
Some of the used cars cost the stealer about half what they were asking.

Oh, car salesmen carry a different KBB than you do.
Dealer books have trade in prices, yours has retail prices.

Car is from New York. You can probably find a local one for about the same price and not have to worry about the resale value.

If you do buy make sure they they provide you with the NAV card before you sign anything. At the same time ask for the second key before you sign. If they don't show you both keys and the NAV card before you sign pass on that one. They probably don't exist. Never ask for anything you want after the sale, you won't get it.

I used this guy, and it was a good situation all the way around. I looked for months for the "right" car, but all the dealers wanted high retail, they barely even wanted to haggle over a price. (Honda Element AWD). I guess they thought they were gold plated, or something.

I looked everywhere...Spokane, Pullman, Tri-Cities, Puget Sound. Finally broadened my circle and to look in Portland, and that's how I came across him.
