Try for $30 tabs again:
https://www.voterswantmorechoices.com/In 1999, voters overwhelmingly passed Initiative 695 demanding $30 tabs.
In 2002, voters overwhelmingly passed Initiative 776 demanding $30 tabs.
But ever since then, state and local governments have jacked up taxes and fees on vehicles to the point that car tabs are skyrocketing to pre-695 levels.
Worst of all, Sound Transit lied repeatedly last year when it came to the cost and the calculation of car tab taxes. For months this year, vehicle owners have been screaming at legislators for relief. But Sound Transit and Democrats in Olympia have refused to support any of the Republican bills to actually fix the problem.
So we will.
Barnacles have grown on our $30 tabs and it's time to scrape 'em off. That's what our new initiative does:
•It gets rid of vehicle weight fees imposed by state government
•It gets rid of vehicle fees imposed by cities (transportation benefit districts or TBDs)
•And the biggie: It gets rid of all car tab taxes imposed by Sound Transit.

I like the idea as well.
I would be less dissatisfied with the fees currently collected if DOT got to spend the money ON THE ROADS and if the roads were in good repair. But they're not. And it is a bone jolting tooth-filling loosening experience to drive anywhere.
Poor performance by DOT engineers has no, to my knowledge, repercussions to DOT personnel or budget.
And while I'm ranting:
Even on new roads, valve covers, man-holes (no, Not Zombie) and electrical/cable/phone access cuts are made directly in the wheel track of traffic! WTF? No-one can give that shiite some forethought and better alternatives devised?

Here's $57M in WA DOT bicycle and pedestrian projects 2005-2007
http://www.wsdot.wa.gov/NR/rdonlyres/8C ... ctList.pdf"Renton, Lake Washington Loop Trail
Design only project for pedestrian and bicycle improvements $426,000 "
So they need $610,000, already have $426,000 set aside, and that's just for thinking about building it.

There's a pot hole you could almost fit a basketball in, right lane Southbound Beverly Park Road about a mile before the Mukilteo Speedway light.
Been there for at least 4 years.
Still waiting......................

Saw on the news a couple weeks ago that there was a rogue group of volunteers that went around the area fixing potholes. but the cops keep shutting them down.
'Liability issues'.

But they did re-stripe the whole road yesterday morning. The old story of the horse
pushing the cart down the road.

As pointed out, tab fee isn't an issue... It's the 18 other fees that are the issue....
Once we pass a measure outlawing those fees, they'll just use their authority to generate another 'PITA citizen fee' of $300.....

I hate to piss in your cheerio's but the car tab fees imposed by Sound Transit are there to service the bonded debt Sound Transit has incurred in order to build their system.
Law prevents interfering with the repayment of that debt and since it's the car tab fees that are repaying, well, you can see the problem.
What's really stupid is that Sound Transit will continue to tack on car tab fees which will induce more and more people in the Metro area to get rid of, or just not buy their first, car. This will result in more demand on Transit but fewer sources of revenue.
For now I could give three flying F***'s as I live outside their extortion zone. If they do start imposing the fees on me, I have a daughter that lives 20 miles North. Guess where I'll be registering my vehicles when that happens.
The people who should really be taking to the streets with pitchforks and torches are those in areas that are having to pay the fees and sales tax for transportation projects that won't even come to their area for 20 more years. By then Sound Transit will be trying to raise more money just to maintain the system they've already built.

We have the deep "state" here in Washington as well.
When I moved here 20 years ago, my license fees doubled from California from $200/yr to $400/yr. Tim Eyman's first initiative reduced that considerably. If those dirtbags in Olympia obeyed the will of the people, we would have $30 tabs. I wish the legislature obeys I-594 as much as Tim Eyman's initiatives.
Continual vigilance is the price of liberty.
Contact your representatives, keep names, support the opposition to reps who supported Sound Transit.
Sitting on the sidelines gets us NOWHERE.
Added: I am not subject to Sound Transit "yet". But adjoining counties are always NEXT for something. Divide and conquer.

I'd really like to see a law that is passed stay passed.
