...according to FEMA: Get uphill and upwind! Seriously. This online CE CERT stuff is making me nuts (or maybe more nuts than I was previously, probably depends on whom you ask). I expect that the classroom stuff will be more...diverse in answers? Will find out tomorrow. Anyway. Fire? Get uphill and upwind! Nuclear blast? Get uphill and upwind! Terrorist attack? Get uphill and upwind! Broke a nail? Get uphill and upwind! Seriously, that seems to be the answer for literally any emergency, or at least it is if you're FEMA.

Here's the true answer to everything................ You are on your own! The help that is on the way, is on the way home to take care of their own family.

I'll suggest what we mountaineers call the lightning position, which can be used for any potentially deadly situation.
How to prepare for a lighting strike: 1)bend at the knees 2)bend at the waist 3)tuck head between legs 4)grab behind the thighs tightly 5)kiss your ass goodbye

Why would you go uphill during a fire, even upwind? Fires race up hills and crawl down them.

Well if I've been into the oat bran, eggs, beans, broccoli - that is the answer.

^^^ Bah, beat me to it.The answer to everything is 42, of course. (At least that's what Douglas Adams says.) I mean, really, in the event of a full-on nuclear attack, 42 will probably be as useful as anything else.

Depending on the distance, 42 might be the number of seconds you have to kiss your butt good bye.

Huh. For years my wife has counceled my children when I fart to "Get uphill and upwind!".
Never knew that was a common emergency reply.
