I'm looking for a couple pieces of shade 14 welding glass to view the eclipse through. I can order it online, but shipping is 4x or more the price of the lenses. I've been able to find shade 10 glass in stores, but not 14. Anyone got some, or know where I can find some?

When I was a kid we took a rectangle cardboard box, and cut a hole in the back covered with aluminum foil with a pin prick. Then tapped a piece of white paper at the opposite end. Then stick your head in the box with the pin prick facing the eclipse, and watch the show on the paper.

Go down to a tint shop on Rainier Avenue South, say you want some glass done in 'In #14 so the police can't see in.'
Then you can watch the eclipse from your car.

Thanks Chris, I ordered a couple of plates from a welding supply company. The plates themselves were only $1.25 each, but shipping was $9.

This is how I viewed my last eclipse down in San Diego

Or not... The first company just emailed me to say that their lead time is 4-6 weeks, so I canceled that order. Safety Glass USA is sold out, but I was able to order a couple plates from AirGas. Hopefully they're not sold out.

Yeah, same link as golddigger, all either sold out, want you to buy in bulk, or located in Europe with vague ship dates and expensive shipping.

For the record, there no doubt be idiots that stare at it too long when it's not total and they won't know they damaged their retinas until that night or the next day.

I got a tip that the REI in Bellevue had some of the viewing glasses, so I went over there at lunch. I asked the greeter if they had any, and she told me no, they were all gone. Then she asked on her radio, and it turns out someone had JUST returned a whole pile of them. They're the Celestron 2x viewing glasses, which is cool, you can take them outside & see a double sized sun and it's sunspots. I picked up three boxes of them (2 pair / box), so Rita & I have a pair each, and our guests on the boat have a pair each.

There were still a number of boxes left if anyone's local & looking for a pair. i also heard the Fred Meyer in Bellevue had them as well, but I don't know if that's true.
