So 2 days later, the actual facts are beginning to appear from all of the misinformation broadcast by the Democrat Press (yes, I repeat myself).
1. There were 2 groups, one had a permit to gather and march, and one did not. The permitted group had the permit over 3 weeks. The permitted group leaders met with local police a week before, and had a cordial relationship with police. Rumors of ANTIFA showing up led the permitted group to do many searches of the park and nearby areas where ANTIFA were hiding clubs, sticks, bottles, etc, planning for a riot. They would find stuff, call the cops, and the cops removed a lot of weapon material hid by ANTIFA.
They were there to protest the removal of Confederate statues that had been there as official monuments since anyone there had been born. They were historical statues. The decision to tear them down was made by one party's politicians. Guess. Charlottesville VA is a very liberal city run entirely by Democrats.
2. The permitted group was supposed to go to a park and peacefully protest. But when they gathered and went to the park as the permit directed, ANTIFA protesters, without a permit, were there. So they turned and went to another park, DIRECTED BY THE POLICE TO DO SO. The police turned them right into other ANTIFA protesters, and violence started by ANTIFA broke out.
3. The police did worse than just "standing down" when the violence started. The police actually turned the permitted crowd into ANTIFA protesters. After the violence started, they police walked away, and were quoted they refused to stop violence because they said they never got an order to engage. A few officers started to move when the violence broke out, but were ordered back and to stand down by their superiors.
It looks like a set-up to guarantee violence, planned by the local government and the leader of the police department.
4. The national press only covered the violence, and only blamed the side that was not legally there instead of the one that was. In fact, the press mostly misrepresented the illegal ANTIFA crowd as "counter protesters".
So there is a factual update 48 hours after the drive-by media pissed and puked all over the facts for their own political and propaganda purposes.
Look, there is a lot of bad that happened, but if you watched any major news network for coverage, you were flat out lied to.
Thanks to social media and secondary sources of news that care about getting it right instead of being first and spewing propaganda, we are starting to find out today, 2 days later, what really happened.
And what was reported wasn't close to what really happened.

fify. I support 1st amendment speech, but I loath their (the white supremacist's) message of hate. See it for what it is.

White "advocacy" does not automatically equate with white "supremacy".
But this is becoming quite a movement in the face of social justice movements that have moved beyond demanding rights and "justice" for certain groups that have been or feel they have been wronged, and are demanding punitive actions against "whitey" generally.
The attendance of the event, ostensibly to protest the removal of a Rob't E. Lee monument, which included some actual supremacist groups has cast that pall over the entirety of the protestors; some of whom would merely like to say: "white lives matter (too)" and others who merely wish to protest the removal of historical monuments and the (ironically?) "white-washing" of history.

Two violent fascist groups colliding with each other.
Intentionally.
Intentional by them, the police, the media, and the government.
People got hurt. People got dead.
Surprise. Who would have thought THAT would happen?
Every person involved. At the scene, and behind the scene, INTENDED it to get violent.
Every one of those people think that in the end, violence is going to work in their favor.

, I don't think everyone there intended violence, but those that did succeeded.

Replacing or removing monuments that are offensive to a few, makes them no better than ISIS, who destroyed priceless monuments and treasures in the Middle East.
History is history, no matter how offensive.
Those offended should be more productive, and work towards getting other statues erected. Such as Martin Luther King, as an example. That's my take on the whole thing.

I like Mr Danoh Sir's thinking on this. I dislike trying to erase history.

And that's fine. Let's take all those statues, all those monuments, and move them to a Museum of Failed Insurrections.
